Does anyone actually still use this? I go to my friends page after not posting anything since March, and it's dead with only 2 posts. Oh well, I'll still put this here anyway for whoever might stumble across it:
Today marks an important day in my life. As I've spent much of my time in my life working and training for the greatest sport in the world in football, I'm afraid, I've closed that chapter of my life today.
After very thoughtful consideration and prayer, I've made my decision and officially "retired" from playing football. It was a great run, and I wouldn't trade one second of it for anything in the world. The friends I've made, the lessons I've learned, the coaches I've had the privilege to be under, are a blessing to me and my family.
Now for the reason I've decided to call it quits with a year or two still left under my belt. There are a few reasons I'd like to just keep personal for now, but the main reason is that I am having season ending surgery on my feet to repair some seriously messed up toes. The pain and lack of explosion and balance it was causing me to have was just too much to not take care of right now.
Along with the surgery, I feel that I've been called to take my career and life elsewhere. Working for the Roundtable on WJOX in Birmingham has been a blast, and I will continue to do it until Ian gets fed up and decides to throw me out the window for eating his fries everyday. This upcoming college season is going to be amazing experience for me as I finish up school and begin to look for a place in the work force.
To go along with the college season, I also have some opportunities which I will not disclose until they are 100% set in stone. These are opportunities to keep me within the BSC Football community, and really look like great chances for me to keep my relationship with the team that I feel I helped lead to the point where it is now both on and off the field. My friends on the team, and on the staff are too important to me to totally desert everything I've helped create at BSC.
So for now, my surgery is scheduled for July 23rd (this Wednesday), and I will be completely out for a day or two I would guess, but then back up and going as best as I can after that. From there, I have a few things to do before school starts, but just minor things, stuff I should hopefully be able to do in my condition.
So I leave you this notice with a heartfelt thanks for every single person who has supported me in this amazing opportunity that not everyone gets to have. I feel like I have accomplished something wonderful. Starting and winning that first collegiate game against Mississippi College was one of the proudest moments of my life. I thank you all, I appreciate your support for me through my years playing the game, and during my time of this difficult decision.
