The new kid: Hank Venture (i_am_the_rat)
Hank's from The Venture Bros., which is at its heart a parody of Jonny Quest. Rusty Venture, Boy Adventurer, has grown up to become a superscientist like his father -- although he's not very good at it, is addicted to uppers, and is a bitter misanthrope. He, his bodyguard, his twin sons, and their robot travel around the world having all sorts of adventures.
Of the two Venture brothers, Hank is more athletic and less intelligent, although neither boy is really much of either. He loves comic books, especially Ratman. He also loves going on adventures, solving mysteries, picking on his brother, and being totally clueless. No, wait, he doesn't love being clueless -- he just sort of is.
He has no powers at all, and no skills either. It's actually pretty amazing that he manages to tie his own shoes in the morning.
For anyone who can sense mystical weirdness: Hank is a completely normal human, except for the fact that he's a clone of his original self. Due to his danger-filled life of boy adventuring, combined with his father's superscientific genius, this is actually the fourteenth or so body that his soul's inhabited. Luckily, he doesn't retain any memories of all the times he's died.
The old kid: Squall Leonhart (whateverknight)
Squall's the protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII, so he's got some mad fighty and magic skillz. He's also an emo-ridden ball of teenage angst with abandonment issues. He doesn't talk much, preferring to carry on an inner monologue about how much everything sucks. He doesn't actually hate people, because that implies some amount of giving a shit -- which he, clearly, does not. Except for the people who have been rude enough to force him to care about them, like Rinoa (angelo_wings), who he's sworn to protect.
He's a bit more chipper and outgoing than he used to be (although only a bit). Getting rescued from the Labyrinth a few weeks ago made him realize that maybe there's a point to caring about people and being cared about, after all, and so he's had to completely restructure his whole worldview. He still doesn't like people, though.
