General Information:

Muse: The One Ring
Fandom: Lord of the Rings
Mun: epsilon_delta

Characterization:

There are two main characterizations I'm using for the One Ring at the moment. One is the version I believe to be closest to canon - an object of evil completely bent on destruction with no apparent motive, no conscience, and without the guidance of Sauron - extremely unfocused. It was created from evil and malice and simply doesn't know or feel the need to act otherwise. This is the characterization I use in answering the weekly challenges for the most part.

The other one is a version used primarily in RP. It is far more sentient, can be very snarky, and thanks to the remnants of a cheering spell, is far too bouncy for its own good. I alternate between this version and the previous version, depending on the characters it interacts with and the situation. I consider this version OOC and for fun only. If there's any particular version of the One Ring you'd prefer to RP with, you can let me know ahead of time.

Powers:

The One Ring's powers lie primarily in its ability to create illusions, manipulate minds and persuade people. It will often appear in more pleasant forms to deceive the people it interacts with. Since the Ring embodied much of Sauron's power and essence, its telekinetic powers and general magical powers are based on educated guesses of a Maia such as Sauron's abilities.

Role-Playing

The Dark Lord Gilderoy Plotline

It all starts when Gilderoy Lockhart unwittingly spots the Ring while wandering and picks it up. Upon his return, the Ring begins to tempt him with promises of magic as well as the return of his memory. As Gil was discovering his newfound powers, Captain Jack Sparrow pays Gil a visit and becomes curious about Gil's newfound, secret treasure.

Through his association with Jack Sparrow, KITT becomes involved in the plot as well. Unfortunately for KITT, he decides to ignore Draco's advice about being careful around the Ring and is tempted as the Ring offers him his freedom. Many of KITT's friends jump to his rescue, but the Ring's hold on him is strong. Draco manages to apparate KITT away, but KITT remains upset. The Ring helps KITT gain his freedom, with hopes of putting the car to use in the future. Meanwhile, Jack Sparrow continues his attempt to steal the Ring in earnest, until he actually puts the Ring on and realizes what it does. He then becomes disenchanted and works on stopping it instead.

The Ringwraiths Plotline

With the help of Gilderoy, the One Ring forges more Nazgul rings to dispense, working towards the building a new army of ringwraiths. Given the last Nazgul leader's ignominious death at the hands of a woman, the One Ring decides to take a new strategy to choosing his new ringwraiths.

Its first target is Arwen. It taunts her with her husband's promiscuous ways, and plants the seeds of desire for revenge and immortality in her mind. Arwen attempts to escape the influence of the Ring by returning to Gondor and seeking out Boromir. Unfortunately, the Ring finds her first and using an illusion of Celebrian, tricks her into wearing a Nazgul ring. Filled with hatred and resentment, Arwen became the Witch-Queen of Minas Tirith, forging a new Morgul Blade and going on a rampage against Aragorn, his lovers and anyone who stood in her path.

The Ring also calls out to Neo, Joxer, BlueStreak, Millicent, Elboron, and Miguelito Loveless.

Meanwhile, Gilderoy is feeling homesick, and the Ring can feel its hold on him slipping. Sensing a stronger power in Albus Dumbledore, the Ring takes Gil back to Hogwarts where it calls out for Dumbledore. Not yet willing to lose the Ring, Gilderoy calls on his Nazgul to help him. Unfortunately, Miguelito Loveless is treacherous and takes the Ring for himself! Unhappy with its new master, the Ring alerts Dumbledore, who eventually turns Loveless into a lemur and takes the Ring. Gilderoy, having lost the Ring, eventually loses his memories again and returns to his normal life.

The new Ringwraiths are also eventually turned back to normal. Check their personal journal for more info. (i.e. I'm too lazy to look all that up).

The Gormenghast Plotline

Crafty Dumbledore acquired the Ring, but sadly, would not succumb to suggestions of world dominations. In fact, Dumbledore cast a cheering spell on the Ring while he plotted against the Ring.

Angry at its treatment in Dumbledore's hands, the One Ring summons Steerpike to escape from the wizard. Once in Steerpike's hands, the Ring impersonates a trapped wizard and tempts Steerpike with promises of becoming the Earl of Gormenghast. They begin by breaking the barriers that held Steerpike and Fuchsia from Gormenghast.

The Ring then summons an army of peasants for Steerpike, and after a visit to Fuchsia, they start their quest to take over Gormenghast.

Unfortunately for the Ring, Steerpike and Fuchsia are far more concerned with ceremonies and re-building Gormenghast than expanding their influence. Impatient with their slow progress, the Ring lashes out against Steerpike. This leads Fuchsia, who has been speaking to Samwise Gamgee and is worried about the Ring's origins to ask Steerpike to take the Ring off. The minute that Steerpike removes the Ring, however, he falls ill. He is currently recovering, but still in a state of depression.

The Undercover Ring Plotline

Bored with the endless ceremonies in Gormenghast, the Ring decides to take on an alternate identity and wreak havoc. Cue the creation of our_spring_ice, whose username is nothing more than an anagram for "Precious Ring." As well as taking the appearance of actress Nakama Yukie, who plays Sadako in "Ring 0" (prequel to Ringu), it also takes on a new name - Anella (a slightly altered version of "anello" - the Italian word for ring). Possibly due to some left-over effects of the cheering spell, Anella is incredibly chirpy and upbeat.

Taking care not to interact with anyone who might expose its true identity, the Ring infiltrates the community, adopting a modern speech pattern to fit in. It makes its first appearance in tm_lucid, joining the crowd awaiting Mike's striptease. Upon encountering its old "friend" KITT, it could not resist a bit of mischief, and turned KITT pink as well as decorating him with smiley-face magnets. This is also where the first bits of clues about Anella's true identity are dropped, including Anella's amazing persuasiveness and knowledge about KITT and Draco. As a lark, Anella also created a fundraiser for KITT, though where the money went is still a mystery today!

Later, at the actual striptease, Anella manages to hit it off wonderfully with Kitty. One evil idea leads to another, and the next thing we know, she and Kitty are marketing tapes of Mike's striptease on the www.shaman-xxx.com website. There was a close call as Varda appeared for the striptease as well, but Anella managed to steer well clear of her. Phew!

But the striptease was not over with only Mike's performance. Calls for an encore are answered by a joint performance with Mike and Kitty. Unfortunately for Kitty, she left the video camera with Anella, who secretly taped the encore as well. All this was eventually packaged into the DVD and shipped off. Meanwhile, Draco, who helpfully provided a wonderful review of the film, received compensation in the form of a ridiculously inaccurate (or maybe accurate?) biography.

As Kitty had fun being paranoid over the contents of the DVD, Anella continued to play innocent. This leads into a discussion of hiding out from Logan in Middle-earth.

Through the use of three different clues, Anella finally reveals her identity to Kitty, who had already begun to suspect that something was wrong during their sleepover. Thankfully, Kitty seems to take it all very well, and even went as far as to rescue the One Ring from its boredom in Gormenghast.

Not wasting any time, the One Ring immediately transports Kitty to Middle-earth and they have a a lot of fun, visiting various evil creatures and even travelling back in time to visit Sauron and watch Númenor sink.

Timewarp way into the future, and an evil!Mike decides to go after the Ring himself! Little did he know, he played right into the Ring's hands and pushed Kit to wear the Ring. Now Kit is very very evil, and poor Lockheed is hiding out in Rivendell with Varda.

Unfortunately for the Ring, Mr. Morden (one of its first enemies made upon coming to TM) and the Shadows have now thrown it into a black hole. This has greatly diminished its powers. While it can still do some elementary mind-reading and project an illusion of itself, it can no longer push people's minds into doing what it wants.

So what's a Ring to do? Start up a gossip rag, apparently. the_quibbler is the result, which mainly centres around the Harry Potter characters in theatrical_muse. The tabloid articles are a mix of canon twisted around and any RPs done by the pups at TM.

Anella (our_spring_ice has also been hired at galaxygab and has already produced an exclusive on Scorpius. It is currently working on another exclusive complete with photographic proof for the nay-sayers.

Odds & Ends

One-shot RPs and any RP which does not fall under a specific category can be found here.

Future RPs

Unless someone specifically requests the muse for a plotline, the One Ring will no longer be actively approaching others to RP. Leave a comment if you're interested. Keep in mind that the Ring is currently stuck in a black hole, so its powers are greatly diminished.
