I wish I understood it sooner, sir. Then perhaps the difficulties we encountered could have been avoided. But I did understand it in time, as it were. Bartimaeus and Kitty saw to that...

Anything, sir. Everything. I simply had the wish to become one of the greatest magicians of my time, though... I'm afraid that was short-lived, if you'll forgive the pun.
