I am back in Fredericksburg and it's incredibly surreal. Empty streets, sidewalks, classrooms, benches, rooms, walls. I can count the number of people in each on my classes on my fingers, seven and eight.
To soothe nerves rattled by emptiness, I tried to make my room in the apartment as cozy and homelike as possible.
I plan on remedying my lack of a door with a folding screen or shower curtain, perhaps.
Please admire these Lucy inspired objets d'art.
I am aware that the curtain on the right is slightly higher than the left. It is not important because they are yellow and were 2 dollars.
Music box: gift from Italy. Lamp: $3.00 at the Salem Goodwill. Fake lemon: stolen from Wal-Mart. Glass Coke bottle: 2 (?) Euros from Morocco. Buddha statue: gift from Suzanne. Mementos and reminders of home: priceless.
As Caroline said, 28 days until I come home.
