it's here.

So, today is August 12th, 2006.  Today I'm going to fly to Ghana.  I'll arrive tomorrow.  I can't believe it's finally here.  You have no idea how long I've been trying to get to Africa.

In high school I applied to the World Colleges, wanting to go to Swaziland, though I ended up changing it to India (there are 10 around the world... so cool).  I made it all the way to the interview (100 people from the US are interviewed, 50 are accepted)... they told me I got it, and then I got the small envelope in the mail.  Ugh.  Mikey, do you remember that? I was on the phone with you when I got it and started crying... ugh, bad day.

Then at the end of my service in Ecuador, I applied to a year of service project in South Africa, Swaziland and Botswana.  It was a youth group that teaches about AIDS, unity, etc through dance and music.  UGH!  So coooool!  I got accepted, defered a year from NU, and then it got CANCELLED cuz we didn't have enough dancers.  : (

But now I'm finally going.  To study West African music.  How cool is that?

Yes, I'm a tad worried about flying in Heathrow... but hey!  I bet it's super safe now!  Just sucks that we can't have carry-ons and all these other rules.  I'm just briging a ginormous Sudoku book and occupying myself with that.  I've never done Sudoku before, so wish me luck, haha.  Well, this and The Priceless Pearl, which I've been trying to read forever now.

I think I had more to say, but I suddenly got sleepy.

If you want to be part of my mailing list, just let me know.  It'll be maybe once a week, maybe less.... most likely less.

I'll still post to LJ when I can, but I honestly don't know what that'll be like.... yep yep.

Love and hugs to everyone.  Prayers are appreciated.  Still kinda strung out over a long day...

ghana, africa, flying
