Once upon a time... or on the 8th of April, the weather was finally beautifully sunny, so I managed to convince Zaid to come out with me to Kyoto to check out the cherry blossoms!
First stop was Keihan Demachiyanagi Station (出町柳駅) in Kyoto. There was an awesome stepping stone bridge from one side of Kamo River (鴨川) to the other, that were shaped like turtles.
Then onwards to the Path of Philosophy (哲学の道), which had a gorgeous line of cherry blossoms and whenever the wind blew, it would loosen the petals and create sakura snow. They've shown it heaps in anime, but the real thing was, of course, much better. :)
When we spotted a soft serve vendor, we had to stop off for manga soft serve (mine!) and blueberry yoghurt soft serve (Zaid's!).
First stop along the Path of Philosophy was Ginkakuji. There weren't many cherry blossoms, but still it was a nice stop. :)
After that was just tonnes of beautiful sakura! :3
Then I spotted this weird dude before Zaid and I stopped for takoyaki (which was kinda our lunch ^__^; ).
Unfortunately, all good things come to an end (and in this case, it was the Path of Philosophy), so we took a nice walk down to Heian Shrine (平安神宮). The garden, was utterly breathtaking! <3
Along the way, we also saw some awesome vacuuming carp! Seriously, they would just open their mouths and suck anything on the water's surface straight into their mouths! O_O
And we also saw these stepping stones. They reminded me a lot of the ones in "Lost in Translation" but I'm not sure if these are it or not...
And no cut for you, because this was what I reckon was the best view in Heian Shrine:
These ones came a close second :D
Heading out, we saw pink "omikuji" (おみくじ), which are fortunes. If you get an unlucky fortune, you should tie them to a tree branch, but because it was hanami in Kyoto, the omikuji at Heian Shrine were pink instead of the usual white. :)
And to finish, here's what I thought was a pretty cool picture of a plane and its vapour trail. :D
All in all, a really gorgeous day for sakura and pictures!
