I Need a New Job

Dec 15, 2013 13:53

It's been awhile since I complained--on LJ--about my job. This entry may end up being long. I apologize in advance.

About a week and a half ago, Ryan from the Natick Mall told me that one of his employees, Stephani, is going to school close by Buckland (my mall), and is available to take some shifts at the carousel if we need her. I was very happy about that. I put her on the schedule for a shift (12/14 closing) that I was having difficulty filling. Then Ryan asked if I would be interested taking a few shifts at Natick, selling gift cards. I was like Hell Yeah. I miss our Guest Services booth.

So, last week, I was scheduled to work in Natick on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Stephani would work at Buckland on Wednesday, Friday (1:45-8:15), and Saturday. On Monday night, I emailed the mall office to let them know that Stephani would be taking some shifts at the carousel. I didn't want them to walk by the carousel and wonder who the hell was running it. I didn't get a response to my email at all on Monday or Tuesday.

I do my training on Tuesday, and it goes pretty well. No issues. Ryan let our DM, Iyarrna, know the days that Stephani and I are working on a differen property. She emails us back, thanking us for our flexible availability. On the way home, Iyarrna calls me. She is pissed off. She's yelling at me that I sent that email to the office, that Stephani isn't properly trained for the carousel, doesn't have a uniform, etc. She's also angry that I never told her that Miami is supposed to have surgery sometime soon. (I thought Miami told her when she was interviewed. She's been going for doctors appointments for the surgery since she was hired.)

Iyarrna tells me that Stephani can't work at Buckland until she meets with Nancy (the GM of the mall) and is officially trained. So, instead of me going to Natick on Wednesday, I have to introduce Stephani to Nancy, and train her. Stephani has worked the carousel already. She filled in when we had no one else to do it. She was trained over the phone, but she's done it before.

Okay, so now it's Friday. I'm again at Natick, helping out. Miami requested Friday off, but she did it after the schedule was already up. Ryan told me that Stephani could get to the mall at 1:45, so I told Miami that I need her to work, but she could leave at 1:45. Unfortunately, things didn't go that way. Stephani was going to be over on hours--can't have 40 or more. So, Ryan told her to come in at 3:15. Stephani made a mistake, and thought she had to leave school at 3:15. Miami ends up staying until close to four, and then leaving. Again, on my way home, Iyarrna calls me pissed off because there was no one at the carousel. I can't make these people stay, or come on time. I'm not even in CT when she called. She said if things like that keep happening, Stephani and I won't be able to work at each other's properties.

Last night. Ick. I think I caught the stomach bug that's been going around. I spent more time in the bathroom yesterday than I have in the last month. It was bad. Plus, we got a decent sized snow storm. I told Ryan that I probably wouldn't be coming in to Natick for Sunday (today), because of this bug. And Miami texts me that she doesn't know if she'll come in to the carousel because her truck doesn't do well in the snow. I told her that it should be cleared up and fine to drive by the time she has to be in. I also tried to contact Brittnee to see if she could work. Of course, there was no answer. (Erica is in New York for the weekend, so she isn't available.)

Ryan is okay with me not coming in. He understands, I'm sick. Well this morning, I get a text from Miami saying, "So are u covering". Eww. How rude is that? I told her I couldn't, because of the stomach bug, and told her about Brittnee and Erica. I let both Ryan and Iyarrna know. Of course I don't hear back from the DM. The carousel is supposed to open at noon today. At 12:14, Miami tells me she'll try to make it in. Around this time I also get a phone call and email from Nancy, asking when the carousel will be open. I tell her that Miami had car troubles, and is on her way.

Well, by the time I sent that email, I receive a text from Miami saying that she slid into someone, and isn't going to drive. John is so frustrated that he offers to go and pick Miami up to bring her to the mall. I tell this to Miami, and she says that she's trying to get her father to drive her. Miami is finally there. I wonder if she was just lying so she could have today off.

I still feel like crap. :-( Didn't help I spent a lot of the morning crying from frustration. I was all ready for Iyarrna to call me again all pissed off. I was also talking myself into giving my notice, and telling her my last day will be January 31st. I need out of this job. I've been looking, but I haven't found anything yet. Maybe I wasted too many years at the carousel. :-(

work--carousel, drama, john, sick
