I’m walking down the same old streets
An all too familiar avenue
The air gets chilled with every step
With the sky far from its usual blue
My muscles tense as the wind picks up
Taking my mind off of why I’m here
But my sorrows and pain return,
Cause the distraction to disappear
She shot me right out from her heart
And turned me around like all the rest
Walking from her has been so hard
As I would swear she’s better than best
This loss has taken more than most
And I wonder if anything’s left
There’s nothing but a faint rattle
That can be heard from my emptied chest
Her feelings subside, her memory fades
And I find myself back on the street
The air warms up, the wind calms down
My blushed cheeks hint my heart holds a beat
I keep on with one thought in mind:
“Don’t get caught up in this pain machine”
But it will take a strong equal love
To turn the corner of this routine
