This weekend has been pretty great.
Friday I worked all day, then without telling me my friends called me out and surprised me by taking me with them to NYC. Let me tell you... it was one awesome night. To start it off, we get to the train station and we're hanging around waiting for the train... enjoying ourselves. The train gets there, before they start loading passengers my sister and Mel got on and got stuck. I haven't laughed that hard in a LONG time. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Train ride in was good, basically just spent it laughing at Mel and Amanda. Got in, got coffee, took a cab to the upper east side. I had to toughen up and sit up front with the cab driver. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be... but I knew none of them would sit up front. The guy was nice and talkative, so it was good. Got out, walked around... the comedy club that I knew was booked for the night, so we just walked... and walked, and walked... and walked. Took 1000001 pictures... and if you know me, you know about how well that went. Found this little hole-in-the-wall Italian place right off Madison Ave by the club Tau. It was so cute! Went in, sat down... ordered salads. Ate, drank, talked, took pictures, got free shots! The were of Peach Grappa which is apparently to aid in digestion, but usually somewhere from 80-90 proof.... no wonder we were a bit buzzed when you couple that with the wine. Anyways, got a cab to Times Square. FUNNIEST CAB RIDE I WILL EVER TAKE. Britt was crazy. For starters, there was a beautiful Weimaraner (yes, I Googled it to find the spelling...) dog in the front seat who had a crazy name I can't begin to pronounce.. much less spell. Britt was asking the cab driver all these ridiculous questions about marriage and guys and she was trying to get a free cab ride from him by talking about some TV show called Cash Cab... then she made up this absurd and absolutely false story about her life. The gist of it? She's from Palm Springs, she just moved here with her mom when her dad died. She's living in the city and attending FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology). I'm sure there was more, but I was laughing too hard to pick up on it. Got out, all of us urgently had to use the restroom, so we ran to the nearest Dunkin' Donuts and sat in front of the unlocked door for about 5 minutes before a janitor told us to turn the handle, hahaha. Walked back to Penn Station where we were able to get the train pretty quickly and head home. The train ride home was ridiculously long.
Saturday I got up decently early, woke up Mel and took a shower... saw Mel out and went to work. Worked until 5, then went out to dinner and to play Bingo with Miss Amber and her family. What an experience! And Amber was awesome! She won $500!!! Crazy. After that I just went to a friends house and hung out. She had people over that she went to high school and they were all drinking and talking about things that happened years ago and prank calling old friends... I'm sure it would have been a lot of fun if I knew the group better... but I don't, haha. I knew my friend and her roommates... and I knew a couple of the guys from a previous get together... but they all had history so I was kinda left out. Not a bad thing though, I had fun.
Today I went out to see Mel in West Chester. The drive there kinda sucked because all I could think about was poor Nancy. For everyone that doesn't know, Nancy Smith was a girl I went to high school with. She played hockey with me... She ODed right before her senior year, and she was really sick and in a wheelchair... and I guess she just couldn't take it anymore and shot herself. It's so sad. It's sad that I looked up to her, and I thought she was so great.... and she just took herself away from everyone. It's sad. It really really is. She was a good person, just a sad one. I don't think she realized she had such an impact on everyone. Not only was the whole hockey team affected when she was in the hospital, but her whole grade was... and even the whole school. And four years later she should be getting ready to graduate from college and begin her life.. but she's not. Instead her parents are burying her. It's just not fair, and it's not right. I wish she was able to get the help she needed. God bless her.
Well, I guess I should get started on some homework that I neglected over break.
Until next time...
RIP Nancy L. Smith
