It’s not that Morgan doesn’t like Halloween. Okay it is that he doesn’t like Halloween but come one this is just damn freaky.

There are three of them. Three small children and he can’t find it in him to move from his spot in the courtyard. To be fair it is because they’re devil children.

Halloween he reminds himself. It’s Halloween.

The three boys are covered in what he really hopes is red grease paint. They’re all standing on the stoop, staring him down, their expressions blank and cold. The rational part of his brain knows that the horns protruding from their heads are just well done costume prosthetics. The irrational part of his brain has his fingers twitching towards his gun.

The door of the apartment building bangs open and the children turn and begin to swarm around the woman coming out. Morgan finally moves, spurred on by panic.

“Garcia!” he calls out as he starts toward where the children are doing god knows what to his… his… his okay he doesn’t know what to call her but she’s his dammit and now she was in danger from hell’s minions. Except when he moves closer to “save” her he realizes she’s smiling and leaning down with a make-up brush doing touch ups around the horns and brushing more black pigment across their exaggerated eyebrows.

She looks up and smiles hugely at him taking in the widened eyes and panicked expression. She begins to laugh as she shoos they children back into the building, children that he can now see are smiling and giggling just like regular kids and not the terror inducing imps they were a moment ago.

“For a big strong FBI agent, you sure are a fraidy cat,” she says as she puts the make-up and brush into a small plastic bag that disappears into her purse.

“I wasn’t afraid,” Morgan replies, willing his heart rate back down to something approaching normal. “I was… concerned.”

“While my downstairs neighbors can be little monsters, I’m fairly certain they’re safe. Besides, everyone knows that you’re afraid of Halloween.”

“Woman I am not afraid of Halloween. It’s a creepy day where people disguise themselves. I just don’t like it.”

As he holds the door of his car open for her she pats him gently on the cheek.

“See no one has ever shown you how fun Halloween can be if you do it right.” There was no ignoring the innuendo in her words and Morgan laughed.

“And I suppose you’re just the one to do it too.”

“Oh my darling, I wouldn’t have mentioned it if I wasn’t prepared to show you the time of your life.” She adjusted her long coat as he chuckled and closed the door. The only reason he had agreed to this party was that all of his friends had threatened him with bodily harm if he didn’t show. As he started up the car he looked over at Garcia who was looking way too innocent for anyone’s good. It was going to be a long night.

The party was already in full swing when Morgan and Garcia got to the Georgetown bar that Prentiss had rented out for the evening. The hostess herself was clad all in black, two cat ears perched precariously on top of her head as she and a Zorro-masked Rossi danced to some music that only they could hear. Hotch, dressed as Captain America (Morgan would lay money that Jack was responsible for picking out that costume) was at the end of the bar engaged in conversation with a Starfleet officer that Morgan thought might be Garcia’s friend Gina but the low lights and costumes were making it hard to identify even people he knew.

Garcia herself had disappeared the moment they had entered and Morgan wandered over to the bar.

“Morgan!” Reid called out and waved from his spot across the room. Morgan grabbed his beer and made his way over.

“And what are you supposed to be?”

Reid frowned and looked down at himself. “I’m The Doctor.”

“Reid that’s the same scarf you wore to the office two days ago.”

“Yeah but now I have a hat on,” as if that explained everything. Morgan shook his head and sat down looking around. Will and JJ were at the dart board, engaged in an epic battle as Robin Hood and Maid Marion. Morgan was pretty sure Maid Marion was going to win. Seaver, who merely had a name tag on that said ‘companion’ walked up and sat down next to Reid.

“Why aren’t you in costume?” she asked.

“Oh Morgan hates Halloween,” Reid answered before looking at her. “He’s freaked out by costumes.”

“I am not,” Morgan started to reply when his gaze was drawn to the woman walking towards him. His first impression was just of black leather and cleavage and when he finally shifted his eyes higher he was looking into the amused eyes of one Penelope Garcia.

Seaver tilted her head? “Batgirl?”

“Huntress,” Reid answered. “Nice choice Garcia.”

“Thank you.” She still hadn’t taken her eyes away from Morgan. He rose from his seat and stepped closer to her.

“You look,” he grasped for the words that just wouldn’t come.

“Amazing? I know. Now be a gentleman and ask me to dance.”

Morgan wasted no time in dragging her out to the dance floor. It was not that he ever thought her as shy in any way shape or form, but this was definitely a new side of his Garcia. He was pretty sure he liked it.
Her lips grazed the shell of his ear. “I told you Halloween could be fun.”

He shivered slightly and looked down at her. “Baby girl everything with you is fun.”

She threw her head back and laughed the creamy expanse of her neck inviting thoughts of things that could be fun later. For now, Morgan just squeezed her tighter and thought that maybe, just maybe, Halloween wasn’t so bad.
