Reaching Out and Touching Someone (in a Totally Non-pervy Way)

May 02, 2013 04:30

I thought I would read this article and want to punch it in the face. But I actually found it really thoughtful and thought-provoking.

The fact is, I really like social media. I don't think it's making people dumb (something people tend to complain about over social media) or even disconnected. I can share good (or bad) news in one fell swoop--making sure to share it with my family first, of course, across innumerable time zones. It also encourages me to solidify my thoughts and observations into little status updates and blog entries, thus keeping them from escaping into the wind (I think my thoughts and observations are worth preserving).

Most importantly, I wouldn't be in touch with many of the precious, precious friends from my old lives without it, and there are a lot of new friends I've made with it. And yes, Facebook friends (not all of them, but many) are real friends. You just can't hug most of them.

I don't know, what do you think?
