The creature Adrastus insinuated that it was related to what we are called, and since the theory holds up in both our cases, I think we may assume it is true.

Not bloody, exactly...Ptolemy comes originally from polomeios, which is Greek for "aggressive" or "war-like". This particular curse decided to emphasize the latter, I suppose.
