PART I

Hyukjae looked at Donghae and frowned at his curious expression.
“Erhm... yeah...”, he stuttered, “your licence”
Fumbling at his trouser pocket, getting out the plastic and enough money for their coffees. He put both at the table and raised himself from the chair.
“Sorry, but I have to go now. Hope you enjoyed your cup of coffee.”, he said smirking.
“ok, let´s go Sungmin” Hyukjae turned to the other, who went in the direction of the door.
“Aah ...”, Hyukjae stopped himself, turned back to Donghae, gripped his chin and pressed his lips against the others.
“I forgot to say goodbye” And a grinning Hyukjae left a dumbfounded Donghae.

After the lawyer got himself together he really wanted to punch the other in the face. What was that stupid guy thinking? Mostly nothing how it seemed. Kissing him in public. Each fact as idiotic as the other. The first was kissing. A guy kissing another in a country, where that wasn´t even allowed. The second. In public. Himself being tired of his life didn´t mean Donghae was, too.

Nevertheless Donghae found himself days later sitting at his office thinking about Hyukjae. He really thought about whether that guy could be the way he was. Liking men. It wasn´t anything new. Donghae had a case like this before. Two men got caught by the wife of one of them. His client was the other, his lover. As for Donghae was a lawyer he had to look at the facts, and nothing else. And a fact was, that in their country there was no way of two men being together like that. And people recognizing guys being too intimate, had a right to report them to the police. He knew that there was no hope for winning that case, but his client and his lover fought nevertheless for the right of being with the one they loved. And Donghae somehow was touched by their strong feelings, even when they weren´t accepted.
And there he was, sitting at his office, thinking about a guy who kissed him at a café.

It was when his secretary came in, saying there was a call on line two. Donghae didn´t even bother to ask who called. He just picked up the phone while the woman left him alone.
“Lee Donghae”, he said with his business voice.
“Aah... whatßs this? Can´t you try sounding a little bit more friendly?” the caller said instead of a greeting.
Donghae frowned.
“Have you already missed me?” the man at the phone asked and the lawyer sighed inwardly.
Hyukjae.
“Why should I miss you?”
“I don´t know. Because I gave you a reason to think about me”
It was more a question than a statement. The lawyer lifted an eyebrow.
“You mean getting on my nerves is a reason why I think about you?”
“Oh come on. “
Donghae could hear some frustration.
“I know you were thinking about the goodbye kiss.”
“What are you talking about? ... Oh ... you mean THAT kiss. Erhm... no ... why should I?”
Could that guy read minds?
A small laughter was heard.
“See. Like I said. You thought about me. I knew you liked it. You should have seen your face when I left.”
Donghae didn´t even bother to answer. “Why are you calling?”
Another chuckle. “I wanted to ask you out.” The lawyer was kind of shocked. Had he misheard what the other wanted right now? And by the way. What was with that Sungmin guy? Wasn´t he his lover?
“The hell no!” Donghae yelled and threw the receiver at the phone. He grunted frustrated. What was it with that guy? Asking him out, Never ever would he meet up with that man again.

In the next week Hyukjae called each and every day. Donghae was enervated to no end. At Friday he just wanted to throw the phone at the wall screaming loud. Finally getting out of the office his mobile phone vibrated, signalising an incoming call. Donghae picked up. Lickily it was one of his friends inviting him over at their bar to celebrate the weekend. It was all Donghae wanted. A great distraction from his horrible week. And so he found himself a few hours later together with his friends laughing about random things. He was all happy and overjoyed not once thinking about what happened the past days.
Suddenly someone sat at their table. Everybody looked at the arriving person, wondering about who he was, because no one was missing. Staring Donghaes mouth dropped open.

“Hi” the guy greeted in an all bouncy way. “I´m Hyukjae, nice to meet you.”
The other men looked frowning at each other. Just Donghae kept staring. No ... no ... his mind was screaming. What was this man doing here? Just go away. DO AWAY!

“I am sure you are wondering about who I am. I am Donghaes friend. You are Donghaes friends, too. So I think we will have a great time together.”
Now all gazes were on Donghae, but said man couldn´t move even one muscle. Grinning Hyukjae started a conversation and the others got along with him. He was at least funny.

It seemed like Donghae was forgotten, sitting on his chair, staring at his friends laughing about and with Hyukjae. It was something the lawyer didn´t like. He wanted to not think about that guy, he wanted to forget about the stress he caused the past days. He just wanted to have fun. And look what happened. Exactly the guy he was trying to escape from arrived at exactly the bar he was trying to avoid him at. And Donghae hated it. He hated Hyukjae, he hated his friends, he even hated himself.

That evening was the first Donghae got drunken since he didn´t know. He ordered one beer after the other while staring holes in Hyukjaes head. If a gaze could kill that guy would lay six feet under now. But unfortunately all Donghae earned was getting himself a headache of thinking about ways he could make the other disappear from his life.

At a late hour, the lawyer didn´t notice how fast time passed, his friends had to go, saying their goodbyes to each other and leaving. One of the last handed a piece of paper to Hyukjae with the private address of Donghae written on it, because it was obvious that he wouldn´t make it home on his own.
Donghae protested about the idea of getting home with that guy, but his vision blurred dangerously and all he could do, was steadying his body at the table nearby. With that it was more than clear, he needed help to find his bed.

The next thing he knew was Hyukjae fumbling at his trousers in search for the keys to his apartment. And a giggling and flinching Donghae was all but a help.
“God damn it, can you just stand still for one moment?!” he ordered. Finally gripping the keys he opened the door to let them both in. Donghae fell heavy against the wall.
“Ok, ... now...go” the drunken lawyer stuttered, pointing out the door.
Hyukjaes eyebrow rose. “and leave you alone like this?”
“Yes” his head fell hard at his chest.
“So you can report me to the police for not helping you?” the man smirked and Donghae stared at him with glassy eyes.
“No ... so I can ... sleep without being afraid of you ... attacking me in the middle of the night.”
“Oh, that´s your worry... you think I will kiss you again..”
“So...go”
“But you liked it, so why being afraid of that?”
“The hell ... I liked” It was somehow difficult for Donghae to stand properly.
“But I know you liked it, so don´t deny it.”
“How could you know? ... You ... don´t even know...me”
“Yeah, cause you never gave me a chance to know you, to talk to you ... to conversate with you.”
With that Hyukjae took a step closer, Donghae flinched for space between them.
“Because... you are ... like that. It isn´t ... even allowed”
“What? Talking to another guy is not allowed?”
“no ...” Donghaes head started to spin around, making it hard to think and form words.
“You know... what I mean...”
Suddenly there was a warm hand at his cheek, caressing. His body was pressed at the wall. He tried to escape, but the alcohol made his muscles weak. And when he felt lips on his own, all he could do was standing there and letting it happen.
“This is what you are talking about, right?
A voice whispered in his ear. And with closed eyes Donghae nodded.
“Why...” Donghae couldn´t say anymore.
“Because I like you ... since that evening in the restroom I couldn´t stop myself from thinking about you.”
A sob escaped Donghaes mouth.
“But ... “
“I know, it isn´t allowed.” Hyukjae interrupted him. “but it feels right, doesn´t it? Why are you denying your feelings?”
“I am a lawyer, and the law says it is not allowed.”
“But you are a human, too. A human with feelings, thoughts, desires, wishes, lust, hope, doesn´t that count?”
“Damn it... what are you doing to me? What are you turning me into?”
A smile reached Hyukjaes lips.
“I am showing you that it´s worth to let your feelings take control for once. Give me a chance, let me show you what you kept yourself from. I know as a lawyer you can´t show feelings you have to be somehow cold, always looking at the naked facts and nothing but that. But as I said, you are a human, too. And this is what a human searches for. Love. I also know you are doubting me, but in life you always have to expect the unexpected and when there is the time you have to take a risk to know whether it is worth it or not.”

Donghae looked him in the eyes, his brain working behind his forehead. There was so much he was thinking about all the week. So much he was denying. Saying it couldn´t be possible. But here he was. With Hyukjae who was willing to be by his side no matter what life would bring. Willing to love him, the cold hearted man he was. Love, a warm and great feeling. And finally he was leaning in for a shy kiss. A kiss as a proof to take this risk. A kiss as a proof for the other to take responsibility to really show him what he kept himself from. A kiss as a proof for the beginning of a life in hide, in hope, in love. A life Donghae was willing to live.
