But you do have a point that it's not a fair comparison to make. My first thought toward that line was actually this: $3 million toward bear DNA research? Fine. It should be clear to anyone that McCain is completely clueless about anything related to science. $3 million is nothing for a biological research project.

I work for a government contractor. We have numerous defense contracts. The company I work for will piss away $300 MILLION like it's nothing. And get very little done. Or at least get things done incompetently. (There are lots of smart people who work there, and lots of very successful projects as well, but some of them have almost made me consider leaving the company just because I don't like how they're wasting my own tax dollars........except that said tax dollars go right back into my salary).

Point being, $3 million is nothing. Hell, $18 billion is nothing for the federal government, yet McCain seems to think that only thing anyone has to do to get government spending down to a sane amount is to eliminate earmark spending. He won't say anything about, oh, the defense budget. Obama did go there tonight, and for that I was glad. He even made the *suggestion*, though without saying it outright, that while the earmark process IS fucked up (true), some of those programs are quite deserving of the money they get, regardless of what unrelated bill it rode in on.
