Ugh, this morning really blew chunks. I overslept and totally missed my meeting with my partener for the CS445 project. Our meeting was supposed to be 11:30--I got up at 11:40. I scrambled like hell to get to school, and even drove--dropping $2.00 worth of quarters into a damn parking meter. Still was just too late though. From my e-mail correspondence with him since then he doesn't seem too upset, but *I'm* certainly upset. I hardly ever stand people up like that, and I'm not used to the resulting sense of guilt.

I was also fucked this morning because I was supposed to have this presentation in my Japanese class today, for which I needed to print out a handout for everyone in the class. I was gonna do it this morning, but obviously didn't have the time. If I had met with Doug I was hoping we could talk about our project while I did that. But since he wasn't there I just drove home, wasting most of that $2.00 I put in the parking meter, and printed out the handout there. But then the two people who presented before me did these stupid, unnecessary, overly long powerpoint presentations for what was only supposed to be a 10 minute thing (I've used PP for 30 minute presentations sure, but for 10 minutes it's overkill). So they ended up taking up the whole class period, and I'll have to wait until Wednesday to do mine anyways.

Now I have to spend the rest of the day finishing my unbearably boring CS445 homework, and then study at least a little bit for my intro to algorithms midterm (though like I said yesterday, I'm not too worried about it). I just had a large coffee. Can you tell? I should go home and get to work before this energy wears off, but I think I'm gonna have some lunch--I didn't eat dinner last night because I was too busy memorizing how to do 3NF decomposition, and thus I'm pretty hungry.

Oh, and in other news, it seems that Steve Ballmer was on campus on Friday for the inauguration of the new high-tech "learning commons" in the bottom floor of the library, which I must admit is a pretty nice setup. I guess MS must have helped sponsor it or something. Now I'm of course no fan of Mr. Ballmer, but it still might have been interesting to see him talk and maybe even say hi to him. Too late now though I guess. I also missed when Noam Chomsky was on campus a couple weeks ago, though annodomini says that, while it was interesting, he was somewhat annoyed by him, so maybe it's okay that I didn't. Still, the only major speaker I've gotten to see here so far is Robert Kennedy Jr., who was really wonderful, but there are still lots of people I've missed out on. I want Al Gore to come and give that firey environmental talk of his that I've heard so much about.

Okay, lunch now.

pain, umass, japanese, microsoft, al gore, computers, school, coffee
