Expecto Mucosum!

Today we head up to Santa Barbara. I think I've packed all the things I need... I hope I haven't forgotten anything. I want to make sure I've got enough books and movies to entertain myself. I'm not sure how I'm going to be by tomorrow, let alone Wednesday in terms of my cold. Last night I went out to Marie Callendar's with Mom, Dad, and Mark and by the end of evening I could barely keep my head up with how clogged my sinuses were. They're a little better today but by no means clear. I was hacking some stuff up this morning and blowing my nose (TMI?).

On the down side, if the surgery is delayed, that could mean some inconvenience for the hotel reservation... maybe I'd have to go home before I'm ready. And it could mean another week of unpaid leave (Nikkei gives me 6 weeks fully paid special sick leave, but after that I'm on my own). On the up side, I might get to see the new Narnia movie on Friday and be completely well before surgery.

I spoke to Michelle V. yesterday on the phone for about 40 minutes. Michelle is a wonderful woman whose blog I found online, chronicling her jaw surgery journey. It's here: http://jaw-surgery.blogspot.com/ --Michelle has been a big source of support for me, even though she lives so far away. She had a similar procedure for a similar reason, although I don't think she had the joint issues I do. My friend Emma has also helped me out by talking to me, although I think her problems were more severe than mine.

As I pack and get ready, I've been keeping myself entertained by watching the Harry Potter marathon on ABC Family. I'm Potterifically crazy right now, which is a good thing. I think Harry Potter will help get me through.
