I had kind of a scary dream this morning. I don't know what it means but it seemed like a pretty big deal. I don't know quite why I was in the location where I was, but it doesn't matter. I was at a series of buildings that were like Japanese temples floating on a large body of water. Could have been the ocean, could have been a sea, could have been something without a real name to it. It's so hard to explain the whats and whys of dreams, so I won't try too hard on that account. The part I remember the most is when I sensed a tremor all around us-- I felt it in the buildings, the water, and just within. Then I saw a very tall building start to crumble and come apart. Huge chunks of it just started to fall away and drop into the water. Next thing I knew, all the other buildings floating around me were crumbling as well and I was plunged into the water and I knew in that moment that it was the end, that I would drown or be crushed, and just how afraid I was of losing consciousness and never waking up again. Then something (not an actual voice) told me to wake up, and that I was dreaming. It was terrifying just how very real this dream was.
So on a COMPLETELY different note, I've been enjoying life quite a lot lately (hence the WTF-ness of this dream). I've played host to two different friends from two different countries since around May 28. Keiko came to visit me from Tokyo over Memorial Day Weekend, and then two days later, my friend Constance came from Quebec to stay with me until just this morning. I met Constance here on LiveJournal almost 4 years ago! We met on the Mackenzie Crook community and bonded over our love for Pintel and Ragetti from Pirates of the Caribbean. And Mackenzie's other roles of course. Our friendship lasted even when the height of POTC fandom went off the radar, and now she's got me really interested in getting into some Star Trek Original Series. I know the word "epic" is overused on the Internet now days, but Friday was really an epic day. We spent part of the day in Disneyland, then fought traffic to make it almost just in time for a screening of Star Trek IV followed by a Q&A with Leonard Nimoy. I am worried that I've gone over budget for the month, but it was worth it because I wanted Constance's first visit to L.A. (and our first time meeting in person) to be the absolute most fun. She's also a really good artist-- Check out her DeviantArt account:
http://konstance.deviantart.com I've just done so much in the past few weeks I've neglected to keep a record of, so here are some bullet points (and a bit of description):
With Keiko:
-Went shopping at Glendale Galleria
-Went to San Juan Capistrano and Laguna Beach
-Went to the Getty Villa in Malibu and Point Dume State Beach
-Went to the Long Beach Aquarium and to Marsia's Memorial Day BBQ
With Constance:
-Also went shopping at the Glendale Galleria
-Went to the Bubble Punch "Haus of Shimmer Walk-off Party" inspired by Zoolander, and wore a lot of pink and black. Constance bought a poo plushie that she called "Reginald".
-Places we ate: Coral Cafe, Kitchen 24, Curry House, Daichan, sushi place in Santa Monica, Angelato (yum), Maggiano's Little Italy with Josh, Four n' 20
-Went to Mark & Sylvia's Wario Ware party (had to leave early because Constance's kitty allergy gave her an asthma attack, but we still had fun)
-Went to Madame Tussaud's wax museum
-She came with me to my chili cook-off meeting for Valley Ruach
-Went to Little Tokyo
-Made poutine and went to see MacGruber with Josh (Poutine - YUM, but very heavy. MacGruber - Silly and funny in a juvenile way - about what I expected. But I laughed.)
-Went to the Griffith Observatory. It was too cloudy to see Saturn but they turned the telescope around and it made it seem like the room was moving. Cute nerdy guy named Collin explained the Tesla coil and the end of the Sun.
-Josh took us on a tour of CBS Studios after we all ate at the Grove, and then we went to Barnes & Noble.
-Made delicious salmon and rice pilaf
-Ate breakfast together outside a lot
-Epic Disneyland and Nimoy day
-Went to Best Buy for Constance to get a new camera (her old one got damaged by her water bottle leaking in her bag. She'd wanted a new one anyway). We also went to Fry's and I got a new power cable for my laptop. I think Fry's scared her a little. Giant ant figures and such.
-Went to Golden Apple Comics - I think she was a bit disappointed - there wasn't enough Star Trek stuff.
-Made a visit to the Bat Cave in Bronson Canyon.
-Saw the Conan writers live at the L.A. Improv Comedy Festival. I found out that the very next show had Deborah Ann Woll and Jim Parrack (Jessica and Hoyt) from True Blood in it, but I didn't want to pay another $25 and it wasn't practical anyway. Oh well.
-On days I had to go to work she had fun around Hollywood and Universal Studios, and met up with some friends.
Constance is one of the best people you could ever meet and I really want to repay her coming all this way to see me by going to Quebec to visit her. I also want to do the same by visiting friends in Japan and the UK.
I've felt like I've been on vacation this whole time! Gonna be tough to get back to "reality" a bit. But then Comic-Con is coming up next month. I was only going to go down to San Diego on Thursday night and just go Fri-Sat-Sun, but I changed my plan to go down Wednesday night and go for Thurs-Sun. I was thinking about how I had 4 personal days left in the year and I should maybe use one for one extra day of Comic-Con. There are some complicated things in my life (mainly the jaw thing) holding me back from moving forward with "life" plans, but dammit I'm going to have fun in the meantime.
