Nostalgia

LiveJournal is a good place to feel nostalgic. Much better than Facebook for that (I have got to stop this habit of comparing the two!). LJ (and other blogging sites) provide the great opportunity for photoessays. Sometimes my brother sends me old pics of the family. That's one of the great things about him. Even though he can be obsessive at times, he is certainly enthusiastic about keeping the past alive, and that obsessive quality often lends to gathering up the old pictures. Every time I go home to visit, the old photo albums come out and we start reminiscing. I wish I could digitize some of the old photos of my Mom and Dad from around the 1970s. A lot of them are in slide format.
I think it's time for a photo-essay, don't you? Not planning for these to be in any particular order. They're just what I happen to have on my hard drive.

My brother as an infant, looking like a cute little monkey:

Me and my Grandma in 1983. I was about 2 years old. I love the composition of this photo-- the sepia tones, how rich the photo is with the items in the dining and living room, the candle burning at the foreground, and how I'm looking at the camera and smiling while Grandma Dorothy goes on playing with me. Wonderful memories of Friday night Shabbat dinners at Grandma's:

My Great Grandma Rochal (maternal Grandfather's mother):

Ahhh, college. Here I am in my dorm room, sophomore year at University of Pittsburgh. I'm sure it was very late at night and I wasn't getting any studying done at all. My boyfriend at the time, Jason, took this pic and probably caught me off guard. YooHoo was his favorite drink, and it looks like he's got me drinking it too in this pic.

Picture of a photo in an album: My dad, baby Mark, and me in 1984.

Wow! My Dad in his high school yearbook at age 18!

Dad with a Jew-fro and silly mustache, with Grandma Dorothy (Mom's mom) in the 1970s.

Grandma Dorothy with her mother Tybie on the beach. Grandma loved to pose.

Grandma Dorothy with her father Maier and my Aunt Gloria, 1942.

Left: Grandpa Morrie. Right: Grandpa Morrie with Grandma Dorothy (Mom's parents). I love these classic pics.

Grandma Dorothy posing on the beach. This one must have been scanned from a page that was largely blank, hence the small photo in the lower right-hand corner.

What a gorgeous picture! Grandma Dorothy, Grandpa Morrie, and my Aunt Gloria in 1962.

I'm not 100% sure who the baby in this picture is, but wow, check out the crazy contrast of my Grandma's dress with the wallpaper! - 1968.

HILARIOUS! This defines evenings at home with my parents. I think my brother Mark took this pic on one of my earlier visits back to Pittsburgh since I moved here. I'm in my old pajamas with my much-loved toy Doggy on my lap, as my Mom and Dad fall asleep on each other in the corner of the couch. The TV was probably on too.

Posted this one on Facebook today. One of my many outings during college to the Pittsburgh Goth Night called "Ceremony". Right to left, this is me, Kate, Meghan, and John. We're sooooo goth, lol! Look at my special emo face!

Mom and Dad: OTP. My favorite pairing ever. I ship them so hard. (Ask me about fandom terms if you don't know what that means.)

Grandma Dorothy being sassy in a swimsuit:

And last but not least for this entry, my Grandma Marion's high school graduation picture on the left, and a pic of my Grandpa Aaron in the army on the right. Her nickname for him was "Archie". These are Dad's parents.

I hope you all enjoyed that! Now it's time to start thinking about getting out of bed!
