Disclaimer: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is the rightful property of CLAMP. This is a fanwork written purely for both your entertainment and mine.

This is my first time writing Tsubasa, so concrit would be appreciated. Still not sure about it, but I’ve been focusing on this fic since Chapter 166 and I doubt I can add much more. Enjoy, either way. :D;

Kurogane
Kurogane sat, watched, waited. There were faint signs of life now; the mage’s fingers were barely twitching, his breath hitching every so often before it once again evened out into silence.

The dark patch over the mage’s eyes made the pale fragility of his skin even more obvious; he had always been fair, but he now seemed almost dead, silver and cold and distant (and Kurogane wondered, vaguely, when he’d started paying so much attention to the mage in the first place).

Instinct warned Kurogane of the movement next to him, and he watched the mage rise up, stare at him with eyes void of emotion.

“Good morning, ‘Kurogane’.”

It was only then that Kurogane realised that the silver tinge of cold didn’t only exist in Fay’s skin. Three words could take the place of one thousand and still have the same weight.

Feeling betrayed (but unsure why), Kurogane tossed the threadbare cloth at the man and turned his back on him.

They remained the way they were, turned away from one another and silent but still painfully close until the situation became dire. Kurogane reached desperately for Fay’s hand, Fay’s call of Go! falling upon deaf ears as the ninja raised his sword and sacrificed his arm. Fay’s shocked face and the clatter of Souhi falling to the floor remained etched into Kurogane’s memory even as he lost consciousness.

Fay
Fay sat outside the room Kurogane had been taken to after they had arrived in Nihon, slim fingers curled into the kimono Tomoyo-hime had given him, head resting on his knees. He felt weak from hunger, but even after Kurogane had told him to feed as he had lost consciousness, he had refused and instead opted to go hungry until Kurogane was strong enough to awaken.

Tomoyo-hime called out to him from the other side of the door, and Fay jumped at the suddenness of the sound, his head swimming as he bordered on exhaustion.

Seeing Kurogane awake and turning carefully to face him seemed to fill Fay with energy.

Once the initial euphoria had worn off, Tomoyo-hime left, and Fay got his first real look at how close Kurogane had come to death. His skin was almost as pale as the bandaged that coated his left shoulder. He opened his mouth to speak, but found he had nothing to say.

They sat and stared for what seemed like hours, as though they were seeing each other in reality for the first time.

“Kuro-rin...” Fay started, but Kurogane grunted and forced himself up into a sitting position, reaching over to tease one strand of silvery hair between his thumb and forefinger.

“You talk too much, Mage.”

Fay smiled, and finally felt like they were seeing eye to eye.

END

Fluff, etc. Comments would be appreciated.
