Today, the tickets for our may ball went on sale. This was, by all appearances, a good thing, especially considering it is meant to be the best university ball in the country. Then comes the realisation that, that being the fact, every student in the country wants to go to it. So the tickets went on sale at 10am, and we, in our naïvity, thought that the people planning to arrive at 5am equipped with sleeping bags were idiots, and that 8am would easily be early enough to be able to queue inside. We were so wrong! So, we spent over 2 hours queueing up outside. At 8am. And it was -2. And windy. And none of us had thought to wear gloves. It turns out having the best university ball in the country is not a good thing, and merely a way to make poor students freeze to death, and pay good money for the privelege. Still, after a good three hours queueing, we had our tickets, and were sat in the bar defrosting. Then, of course, a couple of hours later when we had just about stopped shivering, we decided to go shopping, and of course it was no warmer in town. Still, it needed to be done, as it is tarts and vicars night on wednesday and toon night on saturday and costumes needed to be found. Only now I have a big pile of sewing to do as well as a big pile of work. And I'm still not warm. Tea and a bath, methinks.
