The city has dressed itself up in gray light and storm clouds this evening. As my umbrella counts off the raindrops in quiet ticks, the cracked and uneven sidewalks turn from slate to charcoal gray as they soak up the rain. The city draws into itself in weather like this, people move by each other with upturned collars and chins tucked into there coats, the clamor of 25 million people living together is softened and the dirt and neglect disappear into the rain. I find hope in moments like this, in the solitude of a lonely street corner listening to traffic cut through the puddles.
Here's to more rain, here's to more hope.
