Well. It would seem I survived my intense exam schedule, more or less in one piece, as far as I can tell... My writing hand is sore but I'm sure it's nothing a few pints of cider can't fix.
Yay for vacation time!
I have to say that my favourite class this semester was a last minute elective I chose kinda blindly - Introduction to Political Thought. It was really interesting, and I highly recommend it. If nothing else, read Plato's Republic and Aristotle's Politics - oh, and some Moses Finley. It puts the whole notion of modern democracy into context. I had a number of "A-ha" moments throughout the course (no, not the 80s band silly people!), and given the job that's putting me through school is at the Senate, it's been very useful to boot. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I signed up for part two next semester.
Next semester I am also taking Utopian Fiction as another elective. The first 3 books we're reading are Robinson Crusoe, The Time Machine and We. I've never read Robinson Crusoe, so that should be interesting. One of the other books is a Margaret Atwood book, which is funny because I've managed to avoid reading anything of hers thus far in my life. She was rude to a friend of mine 14 years ago and I never forgave her for that. I guess enough time has passed...
I'm looking forward to seeing many of you over the next couple of weeks. And now, I am going to go and attempt to relax!
