So. A while back I posted about my eldest cat, Kissyfur, who is 15 and was using the hardwood kitchen floor for his potty box. After ruling out medical issues and behavioral issues, it was pretty obvious he was trying to tell me something very specific. He only did this consistently after we moved into the house last year. He only pottied in the kitchen at night. Never in the day. The only difference between night and day is that night is dark. Old cat. Dark. Stairs. Potty boxes in dark basement. OF COURSE. He's old and he's lost his night vision. He can't see to potty!
So I've started leaving a light on the basement for him so he can see all the way down the stairs and to the potty box. Darned if the behavior didn't just stop completely. My electric bill is a bit higher, but there are no more potty issues. None. That's worth an extra buck or two a month to me.
