I finished Brave New World this morning. Oddly enough, although all I heard was rave reviews, I don't know if I liked it. I didn't really feel like I knew Bernard or John. I was shocked at the ending, a little gasp of air was taken, but other than that.. nothing. I don't think Lenina went through enough pain, Linda's adaptation back to civilization was barely touched on. That's not to say it wasn't a good concept.. everything John had gone through, everything he was saying.. it was amazing. But the story itself was not good. There was too much information, too much that should have happened, for a 200 pg book.
...south, southeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west, south...
Has the ending of this book ever reminded someone of the Scarlet Letter? (the whip)
I'm supposed to read the Last Days of Socrates for Book Club on Monday. I read the first section, and it was terrible. Nothing but the power of semantics, "A criminal can cause a crime, but a crime does not make a criminal" sort of thing. I just wanted to call up Plato and tell him to move on with his life, he didn't have to state 30 different examples, all of the same nature, to back up his point. If a person agrees with the first 2, they'll agree with the last 28. If they don't agree with the first 2, they probably wont' agree with the last 28. I hate when author's waste their audiences time. Don't publish something if you aren't 100% sure you'll be proud of it in 10 years, same thing with musicians. Don't record something that you know is mediocre, what's the point?
