Places to offroad...hypocrisybSeptember 28 2005, 14:28:56 UTC
From the Southeast Michigan area, you can go to Mount Morris. (It's near flint and most people refer to the place as the Mounds)
That's where Laura and I went to last month. Basically, it’s $10 to get and if you get stuck people are more than willing to pull you out. You also need an offroad vehicle sticker. It’s like a license to drive offroad in designated state owned parks. You can pick one up at K-mart for $16.95 or something.
Another place that I plan on going to next year is Silver Lake. It’s out on the west side of the state (about 150 miles from Dearborn Heights) but again I think this is a state owned park but this place is all Sand from what I’ve seen of pictures.
You have the same size tire as mine except I’m running the 31x10.5” BFG Goodrich T/A KO’s…it’s an All-Terrain tire so just as long as you have a good 4wd system, you should do better than me in mud; That all depends on if you have a limited slip differential in the rear (and maybe up front).
If you do go to one of those places you should invest in a tow strap. I know Murray’s sells a 7,000lbs tow strap for like $20 or so. I think I’m going to buy a 12,000lbs strap online. My truck doesn’t even weigh 4,000lbs but who knows, I might have to loan my strap to someone trying to pull out a Hummer that’s stuck in some thick deep mud or something else whacky. The weight of your truck intensifies when you’re stuck.
Feel free to IM sometime if you want. My AIM name is hypocrisyB. I’m curious what the specs are on your truck. Is it 4wd? I-4, V-6 or I-6? Auto or Manual Transmission?
