I love Lene Taylor....

Jul 03, 2006 00:45

I make no apologies for that. Lene Taylor is a breath of fresh air for me on the web. I’ve been lucky enough to not only correspond by e-mail but have her guest on my show. Lene Taylor is one of the smartest women I know. Every two weeks I wait like a greedy little boy for her latest show to come down the pipes on Itunes.

I find her points of view fascinating and most importantly they spark debates withing me. I don’t always agree with everything she says (certain episodes of Alan Moore come to mind) but I respect her opinion and it at least makes me look at things in a fresh perspective.

As I stated, I have been blessed enough to even consider L.T a friend. So you can imagine my utter anger I feel with all the Lene Taylor bashing that has been going around. Not only L.T but female comic fans in general.

Its ironic that the hottest comic on the stands right now is Civil War because it seems like a real life civil war has begun in the fandom community. Boys Vs Women, and I do mean boys. Boys who want women like their comics, hot and quiet. Boys who seem to take glee in feeding their own massive egos in order to compensate for parts that are sadly lacking.

When did the majority of fanboys turn into republicans?

This past week one looser posted a Lene Taylor thread on the Comic Book Geek Speak boards. Its called Lene Taylor vs Erik Larsen. It really should be called the I hate Lene Taylor thread read at the risk of losing a few brain cells...

My mother always told me, if you cant say something nice don’t say anything at all. Why cant these idiots learn that as well? Their arguments are idiotic, they disagree with L.T’s opinions but instead of ignoring it or finding a constructive way of dealing with it. They make it their life mission to make a public shit on it for as long as they can. And these are guys who don’t really have lives so they can take a shit for a very fucking long time.

Are they a product of the comic industry? I mean with the objectification of women as something common place in the industry, where rapes are seen as entertainment and women usually fade into the background is it any wonder the net and cons are filled with little trolls like this?

Lene doesn’t mind, in fact she enjoys making such a stir in the online comic community but I get so upset because every time I think its possible for male comic book fans to learn and grow as mature human beings it only crumbles to dust. I want to believe that these fanboys can one day become fanmen, that they are only misguided and the mistakes the industry has made can be overcome. But then I see harassment like this on the web and I feel so discouraged.

Lene Taylor is one hell of a woman and the smartest geek I know. We can all learn a thing or two from her. I highly doubt you can learn anything useful from these fanboys.....
