A weekend on the mountain )

It had been strange, walking into the hotel to find it so empty. Wesley had been so used to Cordelia being behind the desk, bitching good-naturedly about something that Angel had done or Lorne wandering around with a drink in his hand. Despite everything that had happened between them, the fallings-out, the fights, the near misses, this had been their home. Even when Wesley had been isolated from all of them, he had still considered this place as such.

But now, he and Fred were going to make this into their home together. They'd get rid of the ghosts of memories that seemed to be hanging over everything in there.

When they had got back from their weekend in the mountain, Wesley had made arrangements to break his lease on his flat and then had rented a lorry to move all his and Fred's belongings back to the hotel. The next week had been spent packing his place up - he had managed to collect quite a bit in the time he had been living in L.A., considering that he had arrived with very little. It showed how much he really had settled down there.

Some of the people he had worked with while he had been on his own were still around, and they had agreed to help them move everything. Renovating the top floor would take a bit of time, so they were going to live on the first floor until then.

"That's all the boxes," he said once they brought everything in, and Jacob had left with the lorry to take it back to the rental yard. Standing with Fred, he surveyed the boxes and shook his head. "Where should we start?"

Fred thanked Jacob for the help, and told him goodbye before plopping down on the couch. She looked up at Wesley and shook her head. "How about we start tomorrow? I'm tired," she mumbled before lying back on the couch. She didn't know why before she'd been feeling more tired later than she'd ever had in her entire life.

There was a time when she hated taking naps but now she took one every afternoon, and was still ready to crawl into bed by ten. Fred figured it was just the stress from the move, and knowing they were about to take over Angel's business. With a small sigh, she stood from the couch and looked at the boxes.

"Have we decided what room we want? Obviously not Angel's but there's another suite down the hall. Well, maybe not that one since it was Jasmine's and I think it's still decorated for her." Fred furrowed her brow and sighed. This was too much to think about.

"We can take one of the double bed rooms and take the beds out and put yours in there," she suggested with a shrug. "Although, that sounds like a lot of work and I'm too tired to do anything."

When Fred dropped onto the couch and mumbled tired, Wesley looked over at her in concern. He knew they had been busy, so perhaps she was just tired. Watching her as she stood up from the couch and walked back over to the look at everything they had, he furrowed his brow. She looked pale. He didn't like that.

"I'll move the bed into one of the double bedrooms tomorrow," he told her, reaching out and wrapping his arm around her. "Perhaps we can use your old room for tonight - I know the bed's a bit smaller...er...I mean, I noticed that it was..."

He stopped for a moment, knowing that no matter what he said, it was going to come out sounding wrong, so he decided to just leave it at that. Instead, he touched his hand gently to her forehead.

"Are you all right, love? I know you said you're tired, but you definitely look a bit peaked," he told her. "Why don't I call for something to eat, and we can curl up in bed for the rest of the night and just take it easy. We can tackle all this tomorrow."
