Is Bigger Really Better?

When I started reading Dick Cavett’s article and got to the end of the second paragraph I wanted to stop reading because this man had a set opinion about people who are “fat” and was just going to whine about it. Now I do agree that America does have a problem with obesity. I believe this is due to Americans being lethargic and impatient, wanting food fast and cheap but I do not believe that is endorsed by television and commercials. There are fat people but there are also skinny people, white people, black people, etc. and commercials try to be diverse and include people of all race, gender, and size.

Cavett also admitted that he had KKK, Mafia, and Nazi’s on his program and in that same paragraph wondered if that was a “tacit endorsement” for those groups. He seems so hypocritical, slamming advertisers for having fat people in commercials and admitting that by having those radical groups on his show he was in effect advertising them.

What I thought was very amusing was the paragraph that started out “When I was a kid…” and continued on explaining that the only time anyone in his town saw a fat person was at the freak show that came into his town. I’m sorry but that’s ludicrous, there were plenty of fat people back when he was a kid and even well before that.

The article was simply a rant of why he doesn’t like fat people and he’s as entitled to his opinions as much as a person is entitled to being fat.
