There's a ton more out there...like Twitter for micro-blogging. You could also argue that IM aggregators are a part of all this, too...and Skype. It's all about what's the most effective way for one to get their information out there and how they want the communication to be (one way, two way, real time, etc).
There are also feeds to keep track of all your social networking stuff. Check out Friendfeed.com.
Personally, I use LJ because it helps me keep a more intimate relationship with people online. Facebook takes too much effort for things that aren't important (I don't care who pokes who and I don't have time to make my Vampire bite 10 new people a day). Twitter I haven't bothered with (although I should probably check it out for work) and I imagine it's too time consuming. I agree that MySpace is dead. Friendster is laughable. At some point all this stuff will be aggregated in a way where you really will only have to go to one place to access every functionality for all services, but until then I imagine social networking and online communication is going to continue to fragment and because this frustrating mess of trying to keep up with your friends and family.
