A short but sweet little drabble, set in Kaito's POV. Prompt 23. Curious.
Rated G.
Curious:
It’s a curious thing, when one is a child.
Everything is new. From learning to walk, to learning how to tie your shoes.
I learned things a bit differently.
“Kaito.” The man smiled down at a small boy, who looked up with the most adorable, dumbfounded, expressions on his face. A tiny butterfly sat on his nose, made of blue sparkles, flicking it’s wings and raining harmless red sparks over his skin. “Do you know what this is?” Toichi asked, kneeling next to his son.
The wide-eyed child’s eyes were huge with wonder.
“This is magic, Kaito. Would you like to learn?” He waved his hand over his son’s face, the butterfly turning into hundreds of glitter specs, raining down to the floor. Kaito’s delighted ‘HAI’ made him laugh.
My father taught me my whole life, even after he had been dead for years. Even now, I’m still learning things from him.
I’m looking down on a photo we had taken, a lifetime ago. My father, my mother, and me. We’re sitting in the living room, and I’m holding a young dove in my hands. My first dove. I’ve looked at this photo a million times, and somehow I never noticed that, though my father was well into adulthood, he was still so childlike. His expression was sure of himself, but his eyes…
His eyes matched my curiosity way back when. Then same glint that we have shared since I was born. Even he had new things to learn everyday, about me, as I learned about him.
It makes me smile.
