"Wait-you're, I mean, you're actually-with him?"
Momo thinks the old her would roll her eyes or maybe laugh in her friend's face. A little part of her sort of wants to. However, she's smiling gently instead, finding herself suddenly changed and maybe that scares her a little.
Looking over her shoulder, Momo throws a glance towards Renji, who is preoccupied with drinking with his own peers. When she looks back, she spies Toushirou's line of sight directed at the vibrant red head and then to her. Something clicks on his face, akin to relief and there's a fleeting smile and Momo's glad she catches it before it disappears.
"Yeah. I'm with Renji-kun," she remarks, proudly yet softly.
"I-" Her dear Shiro-kun seems to struggle with words and he finally settles on a sigh. "I'm so glad it's someone like him. I guess. I mean-you know, someone we know we can trust..."
Momo smiles again because, yes, she knows what he means. And she's ready for this.
Hands fall on her shoulders and Momo whips around to see Renji there, looking expectant and curious. When she offers a reassuring smile, Renji grins and gives a respectful bow in the tenth captain’s direction before they turn away together, hand in hand.
Momo thinks the old her would have been flustered or giddy. A little part of her sort of wants to be. Yet, she's squeezing his hand and laughing when he blushes when the boys make of him.
It's change, Momo feels it. She's stumbled across the good kind, maybe. Day after day, she'll chase it because, well, Renji is a pretty good reason to look forward to the days ahead.
