Checking out a book:
To a fellow just now, I informed him, as I've been doing all day, that the item would be due back in three weeks on March 4th.
"Ah," he says. "Armed Forces Day."
I blinked, a part of my brain fluttering a glimmer of memory that Armed Forces Day is closer to summer.
"You know," the fellow goes on. "March forth." And he turns the first two fingers of the hand not holding the book into a little figure marching across the surface of the check-out counter.
Now I'm thinking we should start a petition to move Armed Forces Day from May 17th. Who's with me??
