First, sorry for being late. On the other hand, I think I'm the only one doing this - or better the only one I know who's doing this, so, one time it's allowed to be late ;). Yesterday I was too busy with the caps themselves, and when I was finally done it was way after midnight. So I left it to today and took the chance to rewatch the episode again for doing a little review :)
Russian Wesen this time, and a lot of Russian background to keep the episode as plausible as usual. Why not Russian? Episode was suggested by Sasha, who also had a bigger than the usual part of it, explained with a political step the mayor would appreciate. So, why not? SuperRenard this time with not a single yawning or shadows underneath his eyes because of the very possible jetlag (most people I know flying to US or Canada have to deal with it, so I was a little surprised that Renard didn't even looked a little derangered).
[Review] The case of the week turned out as a difficult one than usual. A young waiter is found dead in the freezer of the restaurant he was working at. A Russian restaurant, and the surveillance makes clear pretty fast, the poor guy only had the problem to have the same size than his killer. This killer was after another one: the prominent Russian healer Boris Myshkin, who's just visiting Portland.
I have to say, I'm starting to wonder how far they want to go with Nick and his zombie-sideeffects. No sweating anymore? Really? You guys know that Mister Giuntoli seems to have a little problem with sweat during the summer, right? So far it was always very clear when the temperatures during the shooting were risen above the 20 degrees because his face began to shimmer. Well, probably there's a solution to this problem - or there's an end in sight to said side effects - or, would explain some things, Mister Giuntoli will finally be replaced??? Well, after Kouf and Greenwalt mentioned now several times that they have "several plans for a 5 years-, a 7 years- and a 10years-arc" I hope they are not planing to end the show after the 3rd season ...
Anyway, back to the episode. The Killer of the waiter is found later on the same day - and he's dying of radioactive-poisening. While NIck, Hank and poor Wu have to go through the decontermination. Clothes burned they have to head back to the precinct in blue overalls and plastic-bags on their feet. Seriously, I love the Ghostbusters-references in that scene LOL. So much about the fandom. Guys, I was there when the Wesen-Busters were born (and now I feel like a bolt Eisbiber ...).
Meanwhile Renard has found out that Myshkin is a former assassin, and that all of his victims died a terrible death. Well, nice reference here again to the 1986 disaster in Tschernobyl, guys! A radioactive Wesen, what can both, heal and kill with it's special power. and has to suffer itself during the woge. Scary, but good. And, on this way, another compliment for the make up department: Myshkin's last victim (his supposed to be killer) had the best prostethics so far. Nasty and disgusting and something that make you choke but this time I really was ... well, I wouldn't watch this episode while I eat something (says the woman who's getting hungry watching movies like "Dead End" ...).
On the negative side: No Rosalee, barely Monroe, Juliette and Adalind. That was a little sad for me after three weeks without Grimm.
What I liked was that the Myshkins were a mixed Wesen-couple too. Anybody knows what she was? A while ago Sasha mentioned the fairytales about Mamajaga. I just watched a couple of movies about her (sometimes I really watch TV! Yes, there were two movies with her on TV during Christmas and I took the chance to watch them, no matter if kiddy-stuff or not), and I have to say, said wife definiteley had some Mamajaga-qualities ;).
What I also liked was the little storyline about Juliette's friend Alicia and her Klaustreich-husband. Best line of this episode was Nick, all confused and trying to hide himself for Alicia after she woged and turned out as a Fuchsbau: "I put the room in the bag." I read a couple of other reviews in which especially this part was pretty heavy critized as "fill in". For me it didn't feel this way (that, I fear I have to leave to Hank and his therapist, that scene didn't make a lot of sense to me). And I seriously cannot await this friday to see Juliette kicking some Klaustreich' butt :D. But that's me, and it's pretty clear where my priorities are moving to more and more.
I have to confess, I was sceptic after I learned about the Russian background back in August last year, when Sasha mentioned this episode. Russian folklore isn't exactly my favourite. They have a lot of interesting history but ... well, the Russian I barely know give a damn about history or folkore as long as they have vodka. Probably it's that, and that was also a little problem during the episode for me. Seems I develop a little drinking-problem, huh?
Anyway, Red Menace was again a pretty good episode and showed also again Grimm's strength. Hopeful the struggles from the start of this season are over now and it only was a problem that is fixed now completely with the new writers are in the saddle long enough to get the characters. Grimm is darker now, but it's also still a fun show to watch. Hopeful they will keep it this way.
And with that, next on is the picspam. Full album, as always, you can find at TeamGiuntoli's Gallery, free to take and use if you like. Have fun with the pics!
