As I was asked for and it IS a sort of GrimmArt, here we go. The following is the complete project for the GermanGrimmster-fan-account on Twitter. I think this is also the right place to explain the thoughts behind the NiceGuys/Gals.
So, lets get this started ... with the Girls of Grimm:
Bitsie Tulloch (Juliette Silverton):
Concept:
"Never again!" is the title of the comic. I know Juliette never would go after a cat with a broom but I thought it would be funny to see her a little bit badass but funny as NiceGal. Thought behind it is simple, what if Juliette would know there would be another plan for her losing her memory again? I think then the broom would work.
Portrait:
The problem with painting on black sheets is simple that the picture can turn out very dark, as it was the case here. Well, at least I was able to recognize her ...
Shirt:
One little detail: as, let us say, a little inspiration for the cat I used my own one ;)
Claire Coffee (Adalind Schade):
Concept:
"Adalind takes over" is the title. I am ... let us say, referring a little bit to Claire's overwhelming return to the cast in the backhalf of season2. No offense, I love her from the bottom of my heart, but it was sort of funny to follow her tweets and how she easily outnumbered David Giuntoli back then. wouldn't it be a funny thing to rename the show after her?
Portrait:
It was the first time I made a portrait of Claire. And, while I recognize her, I think this is probably the worst of the portraits I've painted for the project. I hope Claire takes it with her great humour ...
Shirt:
As you can see I made some changes. Instead of using only the shield Adalind now takes over the complete Grimm-logo with her very own beauty-shop ;).
Bree Turner (Rosalee Calvert):
Concept:
"Rosalee saves the Day" is the title of this one. I have to confess, Rosalee gave me a hard time, I didn't really know what to do with her what could turn out funny enough for this project. In the end I decided to let her do her best, doing the hard work, while Monroe, Hank and Nick are in the background infected by something that let them fall asleep.
Portrait:
I have to confess, I was stunned how fast I was able to paint Bree's face recognizable enough for me. I hope she will like it too in real, at Twitter she already told me that she liked the photo of it.
Shirt:
Well, I think I explained everything about the concept with the drawing here :).
Russell Hornsby (Hank Griffin):
Concept:
"Mousonyte" is the title. Just like with Rosalee I had a hard time with what to do with Hank. This time I fear mostly because I still have problems with the character. Finally, after several attempts, I decided to go back to season 1 and his disliking of rats. Well, here it is a mouse that came in his way, but the most people I know also have issues with mice if they have issues with rats.
Portrait:
A compliment for Russell on this way: he has a great face for doing such arty stuff. It was a pleasure to paint this portrait.
Shirt:
Sasha Roiz (Sean Renard):
Concept:
"Throne varcant" is the title and this concept is one the ones I changed during the process. I don't have to mention that I did a GoT-rewatch during the last weeks, right? Well, story behind this is Sean Renard's political games. As I think he's one of those who wants to end the power of the Royal houses (I may be wrong about that but it's my impression), why not blowing up a throne - and most likely the next king with it?
Portrait:
It was the fourth time I think I made something with Sasha. I'm not completely content with the result but I think it's okay this way.
Shirt:
What you probably cannot see is the bomb I placed underneath the throne. The change is easily to recognize with the shield and the crown.
Silas Weir Mitchell (Monroe):
Concept:
"The Clockworker" is the title. And it should be easily to understand. Thought behind it ... well, in the opener the Grimm-sign looks pretty metal, why not turning it into a clock and giving Monroe a hard time to fix it?
Portrait:
This is one of my personal favourites. The portrait turned out pretty great and I'm happy with the photo I used for it. And - yay! - I painted a believable beard! LOL
Shirt:
Actually I think this and the following one are my personal favourites in this project ...
Reggie Lee (Wu):
Concept:
"Raider of the lost Cookie" is the title. Actually it was the only concept I never changed. It IS perfect for Wu in my opinion to turn him into his very own version of Indy Jones :D
Portrait:
It was the second time I made something with Reggie, and after the disaster with the first one I feared this, but I'm confident myself with the result - and Reggie already shared his thoughts about this one (awesome), and that means a lot to me with Reggie's brother as background.
Shirt:
For me personal the best shirt.
Norberto Barba:
Concept:
"The Boss calls" is the title. This one I think I changed the most from the first concept, especially after the misunderstanding with Norberto's wife Regina on Twitter. This project was meant as fun, for the Grimmsters and for the crew, not to offend someone. So, instead of a hard working executive producer doing all things on his own I changed the concept to the early boss who wants to start working but his staff isn't even around.
Portrait:
Three shirts later ;). Really, Norberto's face gave me a hard time, especially as the new color I use now (because the old brand doesn't exist anymore) is permanent from the very first moment. Every point in the wrong place is there FOREVER!. But finally it worked out and I'm quite confident with the result.
Shirt:
To make the concept behind this more visible I skipped the original lines and drew new ones to show, NiceGuy Norberto is an early bird and all alone on the Grimm-set.
So, I hope this little explanation and the look on what I did during the last month was as much fun for you as it was for me. And I really, really, really hope the cast won't feel offended.
