It seemed as though they were covering many places in a rather short amount of time. Roxas didn't have a clue what time it was, or how long he'd been wandering around in this town. All he could really wonder was how much longer he would need to be here, and what it would take to return back to The World That Never Was.
Was he just wandering aimlessly? It felt like he was, but everything he came across, those little scraps of paper, the flashlight, it seemed like everything was predetermined. He was merely a pawn, a small player in something that was so much larger than him.
This was a new place, different than the apartments, and all the more unsettling.
Cells: some open, some locked, blood, flesh, things he'd rather not see. And the stench, oh, it was something foul. Roxas had to cover his nose and mouth to suppress the urge to vomit.
He could feel someone watching him from inside one of the cells, and if he indulged the feeling, he could see a pair of gray, washed-out eyes looking back at him. The woman behind the door began to push at her cell door, trying to get it open, pale hair swaying with the effort against her thin shoulders.
And Roxas, he was rather oblivious for the most part, lost in his thoughts as he glanced about the long corridor, flashlight allowing him to see more than he would have otherwise.
Jeez, were the lights out in this entire town?
It was only when the blond heard a noise behind him, a shuffling and slight creaking as something moved. Roxas was still getting used to the surprises here, and spun quickly to face the cause of the ruckus, shining the light in what appeared to be a woman's face.
"Oh," he said, and his hand dropped slightly, no longer potentially blinding the poor lady. But what was she doing on the other side of the cell.
It was kind of awkward; the only woman he really knew was Larxene, who was the epitome of sadism, and so all of the girls he came across, he immediately compared to the Savage Nymph. He supposed it usually came as a relief when he learned that not everyone was like her, but still...
"Are you... What are you doing in there?" Roxas asked dumbly, because really, he had no idea what to say to a woman in a
She laughed softly, pleasantly. "Why, I'm trying to get out." She said lightly, her voice clipped with her strange accent. "The latch appears to be on your side, if you could be so kind..."
She had to be nice, had to, lest there be a serious problem, one that she could surmise, happened with alarming frequency in this nightmarish place.
Roxas wasn't sure what to make of that statement. Was she a prisoner? Glancing about the rest of the hallway, and shining his flashlight, he couldn't see any others within the confines of these cells.
As far as he could tell, everything was old and outdated, that if there had ever been any prisoners within these walls, that it had been a long, long time ago. Anyone in here was clearly trying to get out, as this woman had spoken.
"Hold on," he replied, and shined the light of the latch. He would have assumed there to be a key necessary, but everything about this place was a bit off-kilter, and so it didn't take long for Roxas to get the door open.
He would have been a bit more wary, were it not for his desire to get answers; if he could find people who knew just what was going on here, then surely he would be that much closer to making his grand exit.
Claudia stepped out slowly, feet bare against the grimy floor. Despite this, she seemed not to notice as she practically floated over to Roxas' side. "You have my thanks," She said with a respectful nod. Her eyes scanned the hallway suspiciously before she turned back to the boy. "You arrived here alone?"
"Yes... No! Er, kind of... I guess," Roxas said, trying to organize his thoughts. "I met up with two people, but we seem to have been separated," he decided, also giving the hallway another glance over.
They'd somehow managed to end up here, but after they entered, somehow, Roxas had lost sight of Marluxia and Hinamori. He knew they had to be somewhere within this building, but the boy hadn't the faintest clue just how large the prison was. They could have been anywhere.
It was now a matter of locating them and reuniting, or something. After all, it was rather convenient to have another Nobody, someone he knew, stuck in this place with him. It almost made it bearable, if only slightly more so.
"How did you end up in that cell?" Roxas asked, gaze settling back down on the woman as she stood beside him.
To that Claudia only shrugged, feeling her way out in the darkness. "This place does have it's own ideas about what it feels we should be learning..." She shook her head softly. "I have done nothing wrong, of course." She regarded the boy as an afterthought, "and it is unlikely you have any sins to atone for, as well."
There had to be a door to the outside somewhere against the far wall. The only question was to find it. The door out of this place was likely on the roof or the basement,but... being the good girl that she was (only her daddy had seen fit to beat her), she was unsure of the layout of this place, having only heard of it told breathlessly by her terrified charges, speaking of it with a reverent fear that still made her skin crawl in distaste.
