Mother's Day... I'd never heard of any holiday like that before now. It got me thinking.

[It made his emo more persistent for a few days too, but that's besides the point.]I never met my mother... I don't even know her name, or my own family's name. But I still feel like I love her ( Read more... )

[Ooh, ooh, Lika knows this one!]

Link, I think you love the idea of your mother.

It sounds like children staying with their genetic parents was the normal family pattern where you're from? And you didn't? So it's natural that you feel a sense of loss about it, especially if your society places great stock in family ties.

The idea... [Thoughtful pause.] ...I guess that would make sense.

Um, well, I'm not actually sure what's normal for Hylians... but a lot of children are missing a parent, because of the war. Even so, families and villages are pretty important, yeah...

It's not necessary to have a conventional upbringing to have a healthy, integrated psyche, but it does help, developmentally.

[Wait, Link probably didn't follow that. Talking to people from other cultures is hard.]

...Link, it's entirely normal to wonder about what could have been, but you can still be healthy and happy even though things were harder for you than for your peers.

Ah... I'll try. Maybe when I go back to Hyrule, and all of this is over, the people in Kakariko can help me. Find a place to stay, I mean.

Is that all you want, Link? A place to stay?

[Tell Lika about your mother, Link.

Oh wait, you already did.]

I don't know - maybe. [Sigh. His worries go beyond that, more than he could guiltlessly unload onto a near stranger.] It would be nice to know that I had someplace to go when everything's resolved.
