If you're surrounded, just kill one and get out. They'll forget all about you and go for the easy meal.
If they scream, ignore it the best you can - don't stop. Move away. And if you're not fast enough, and one latches on, just struggle. Don't give up, try to get it off until it does. Their balance and grip isn't very tight, and they'll fall off if you try hard enough.
