Wedding Anniversary Two years!

Mar 12, 2009 11:44

I've decided that I like Anniversaries. I told Aaron it was like a shared birthday. (I only very recently started liking birthdays.)
That morning before he left for work Aaron told me I should come out to Tualatin (The city he works in.) and have lunch with him. So I did! We went and sat in the car next to the Beaver Pond, and although Aaron wished it with all his heart, we did not see a beaver. Now that I can see one, we don't. (My eyes are heaps better. Thanks for asking.)
We listened to Galatica Watercooler. This episode we've been trying to finish for a week three different times.
Lunch ends with lots of kissing in the parking lot then I go home to curl my hair.
Aaron gets home and he has this huge bouquet of long stemmed red roses and some purplish colored flower. Does anyone know what those are called?

Beautiful! It has this huge heavy vase.

Thank you so much Bear!
About 6:38 we head out to Portland for reservations at 7:15. The Melting Pot!
Its so nice that it isn't completely dark by 5 anymore. Hooray for spring! We get to the parking garage and they have this great rip away reminders of where you parked. (*Nerds!*)

Can you guess what color our floor was?
We take the elevator down and cross the street. I think almost the only reason why we're going here at all is the really cool entrance. Its pretty much a set of stairs that leads you right underground to the restaurant. (*I wish I'd gotten a picture of it, but we were almost late for our reservation. Also as I'll explain later, we have another reason for going back.*)
We go in and they take us this long round about way to the back of the restaurant. Then all the sudden I see this ice bucket (really romantic word - ice BUCKET) with balloons and some drinks in it. (!) I'm sure I said something like "oh thank you honey!" or "Awww!" but I can't remember what I said. I thought it was very nice. It was down on the table when we first walked up then she put it back there to give us some melting pot room.

Aaron told me this story of him on the phone with the hostess trying to get everything set up for us. He told her it was for our anniversary and she asked him what anniversary. He says two year. Then she asks him how long we've known each other and he says about 3 years. Apparently she was thinking a dating anniversary and Aaron was talking about a wedding anniversary. Anyway he can tell the story better than I can. (Comment the story Aer!)

At first they had some sort of alcoholic drinks in the bucket. Then the server noticed and switched it out for some sparkling cider. Apparently when you go to the Melting Pot for a special occasion they will take your picture then print it off and give it to you right then. She actually got a really cute shot of the two of us. Its probably one of my most favoritest pictures of us ever.

Then they put it in a cute little "The Melting Pot" frame.

I forgot! They also gave us this little card for our anniversary. It had "The Eiches' on the front and then "Happy 'Paper' Anniversary." Since the 2nd Anniversary is paper. (This isn't paper. it looks like some sort of metal. No sir thats paper.) Ok so I just looked it up online and apparently 1st is paper and 2nd is cotton. Woopsie. ;)
On to the food!

Four course meal! I didn't get a shot of the appetizer which was a cheese fondue. (Spinach, artichoke AND cheese) That was Aaron's favorite.
They have this burner right in your table and they have that double broiler pot going for the cheese fondue and they make it right there in front of you. She started with chicken broth then added minced garlic and artichoke hearts, spinach, cheese and a little pepper and a dab of tabasco. Then she stirs it up and you're free to use your pink or blue handled long skinny fondue forks.
We had granny smith apples soaked in lemon, pumpernickel bread and some other breads. My favorite was cauliflower in the cheese but they also had carrots, broccoli and chips. Those were good too.
Next!
I got a house salad and Aaron had a Caesar. Tomatoes and eggs! I love how they diced up the cucumber for the salad. That makes them way easier to eat. Aaron got some kind of sweet-ish nut in his salad.
Next!
This is the main course you see in the picture above. You get the pot full of hot oil so you can dip your item in batter and fry it up! Starting on the left you have little red potatoes, broccoli and whole Mushrooms. Then on the center plate is pork little green spinach raviolis fillet minion in the middle and chicken on the right. Then we had two different batters for veggies on the left and meat on the right. Then all kinds of sauces. Like 6 different kinds.

I really loved to stuff those big mushrooms then veggie batter then fry. I used the sauce they call the "Green Goddess" to stuff and then dip. (Cream cheese, milk, sour cream, onions, parsley and chives.) Wow!  I had like 3 or 4 of those myself.
I had just one of raviolis. Good. But not as tempting as the mushrooms.
I also had a couple of the fillets. Very tender meat. I was wishing for some of TGI Fridays Jack Daniels BBQ sauce for that. Instead I used the Teriyaki sauce. Very good. The chicken was also very good but nothing could keep me away from the mushrooms. ;)

Last! The chocolate fondue. She also mixed that up right in front of us. I didn't realize it was so entertaining. Check out the video someone took.

This one goes really quick but they light the stuff on fire and then pour it out into the pot. It was so worth the trip for that. I posted a different one on facebook, but I liked this one because it had a little sound to it.
Cookies ‘n Cream Marshmallow Dream (Dark chocolate topped with marshmallow cream, flambéed, swirled together and topped with crushed Oreo cookies.) The dipping items were all our old favorites bananas, strawberries, rice crispy treats, brownies, pound cake, marshmallows (chocolate and vanilla), and cheesecake.
My most favorite was the brownie. Brownie covered in warm dark chocolate. (Mouth watering now.)

Aaron really liked the strawberries but he couldn't get enough of the rice crispie treats. He asked for more of those. Yum!

Now you can start to see why it took us about 3 hours to get through all this. It takes almost 3 hours to talk about! (and probably 3 hours of work to pay for it.)

We were going to get souvenir glasses but they happened to be all out that night. They said we could stop by and get them any time but that seems really anticlimactic.
The Melting Pot is way good and a lot of fun. They totally took care of us. I definitely recommend it for anniversaries.
