In Fair Haven Vermont the city has been run efficiently and frugally since 1993 when they started running a budget surplus. In other words they didn't spend all the tax money they took in. It's taken 15 years but they've built up a 1 million dollar surplus for the city which equates to roughly half their annual budget.
Here's the story
http://www.kptv.com/money/14258463/detail.html Here's the parts that annoys me.
Some in Fair Haven are demanding tax refund checks.
Others suggest that the money should go toward a range of one-time projects.
Let's rephrase that.
Give us our money back or spend it.
The town government isn't being praised for being frugal and for limiting government spending and using their tax dollars right. They're being told to operate hand to mouth. That's right everyone. WE DEMAND OUR GOVERNMENT SPEND EVERY PENNY OR GIVE US BACK ALL SAVINGS SO WE CAN SPEND IT.
No wonder our clueless government lacks financial responsibility, or even financial sensibility. The people don't have it themselves.
Morons.
I demand our government showcase sound financial responsibility. Our government, at all levels, should be sitting on one year's worth of tax money. In 2008 our government should be spending the money from 2006. Instead of the people "investing in our government" our government should be "investing in it's people". And reaping the interest to be used for more investment. Instead of sending free aid, which ruins developing economies, our government should be giving low interest loans. America should be the world's bank. Instead America is the the world's spendthrift. We're the richest nation on this planet but the people struggle under their debts. We spend everything we earn.
How do I propose we change? Freeze all spending increases. Every last one of them. There will be no increases at all until the first goal has been met.
- Pay off National Debt.
- Fill the Treasury with at least one year's worth of expenses.
- Save 10% of the national budget into an emergency and relief fund.
- Promote individual financial responsibility for retirement
- Encourage personal charitable giving. Instead of the Government being responsible for helping other nations and disasters monetarily, the people will be.
