Getting Up Early Day 2

Mar 29, 2007 08:29

Last night I realized I could immediately benefit from setting my alarm for 5am instead of 6am.  The benefit lies in my hours.  I'm an hourly worker and am supposed to be able to answer the phones from 8am to 4pm with an hour off for lunch at noon.  That turns into 7 hours.  The eighth hour of each day can be taken before or after or split up some.  I've been taking it afterafterall , it's hard enough just getting to work, let alone getting in early.  That is up until I realized that it isn't anymore.  Granted, this isn't a habit yet.  It's the enthusiasm of the first couple days.  I'm doing my absolute best not to overdo it here, but order really wants to spill out into the rest of my life (more on that another time).

Anyway, I set the alarm for 5am this morning and planned out what I was going to do last night so I wouldn't have my moment of endearing yet completely confused befuddlement.  And it went off smoothly with only a few minor hitches.  One hitch is the voice saying "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"  but it's been getting choked off by action and hasn't had time to do more than offer half-hearted protest.  The second hitch is I've found myself staring blankly at nothing occasionally--I might just have to leave those moments in the routine as they happen until I've got something a little more set that I can play with.

All in all my morning went like this.

  1. ALARM!
  2. Turn it off
  3. Stretch
  4. Stand up
  5. Smile (I've decided that's an important step)
  6. Turn on the light
  7. Grab my towel
  8. Shave
  9. Brush teeth
  10. Shower
  11. Get dressed

TMI you say?  Then don't read it silly person.

I'm hoping to figure out how to make my morning go on auto pilot.  You know, make it a habit and then let the habit reinforce itself.  I'm wanting to get the actions down so then I and think and ponder without staring at a wall blankly wasting time.

Oh yes, I am slightly tired.  I figure it's adjustment and I'll only have to endure a week and a half more of it.

wakey wakey, log, sleepy head, habits
