*start rant*
I know spike TV is the 'guy network' and all, but last night's video game awards was a complete fucking joke.
Let me sum it up for you if you missed it:
Bodypainted girls deliver the red-monkey awards to other celebrities accepting the award for the studio. In-between awards, were other celebrities (who don't play games, pretending that they do) and reading off cue-cards and showing commercials for up-coming video games. (the commercials were the coolest part of the whole show.)
After that, there were random bands that were playing songs that had NOTHING to do with video games.... I mean, seriously... There is so much license music in games (rockband, guitar hero, sport games) that they could have tied it in SOMEHOW!!! but no.... that would have been asking too much!
What do I want the spike VGA awards to be??? Glad you asked.
1. I would eliminate the naked body-painted girls. This is just flat-out-disgusting and sexist.
2. I would have the developers actually accept the awards. Not some fake celebrity.
3. I wouldn't have celebrities there AT ALL--except maybe to host. You just don't need them.... this industry is FULL of talented, intelligent people who would love to talk about their game.
4. I would have the commercials be the main part of the show. like the superbowl. I would also have the commercials for the entire year.
5. The awards would be something that I would be proud to have in my lobby, regardless of what games I make. Those monkeys are not E rated!!!
6. I would not have cue-cards. I would not have ANYONE pretend that they play games for the sake of having their fucking face on the screen for 10 seconds.
7. I would probably show more footage of games. They had montages, but not a lot of gameplay.
8. the entertainment (filler) would be tied into games somehow... There was a bunch of awards for the best music--why not have those artists up there?
ok. i think i'm done venting... it was just appalling. A huge marketing ploy that has nothing to do with gaming at all.
