Today's teenagers are hugging more. Personally, I'm glad to hear this. Hugs are good for you, and for everyone else. Hopefully the next generation will be healthier for it.

To me, it isn't about more hugging ex_tawneelyn258 June 11 2006, 16:40:48 UTC
It was more about not bending to stuffy conservatives. You are congradulating teenagers, and they should be, for taking a stand. Teenagers have always done that, though the topic may have been different... from war, religion in schools. The more important point is that parents of teenagers today... are allowing their children to express love and are teaching them, in the form of hugs. We learn from example, and in the teen years, we put to test, all that we have learned. Hats off to the parents, they are the ones who took the leap against what social domestication has taught them. They have taught their children to think freely.

I also think it is important to note, that the principal was not opposed to hugging per say, just the way in which it is carried out. I, myself witness teenagers practically having sex in a school hallway, clothes on... there is a time and place to explore that affection. That is also a good point that needs to be taught. Moderation. At the workplace if a male and female hug, it is against the COC. It can bring about lawsuits. School prepares children for the workplace, for the responsibility of working with groups to accomplish goals. So to teach moderation is a good thing. I do not feel like hugging should be abolished, however if you give the kids a mile, school would have to have 15 minute breaks between classes just so everyone could hug everyone else hello again. Kids will take it to the extreme.

That said, hugging should be encouraged, however... there needs to be some indicator of appropiatness of the time and place. It is hard to teach 600 students that at one sitting...

my 2 cents
