I've decided that I don't like Punisher MAX.* The violence is far more graphic than it needs to be, and the series lacks the character complexity and dry, dark humor that made me love the regular Marvel series so much. What I bought and read today just didn't have that profound ingenuity that turned me into a Garth Ennis fan. It's like he wrote Punisher, Hellblazer and Preacher from his crazy and brilliant heart, but Punisher MAX is just paying his bills. Fortunately, I have thirty days to return the collection, and I can do that tomorrow.
