The past few days, net world peace has been disturbed. People start fussing over the
Japanese government's plan to hunt down the pirated contents' providers. Over 500 sites are listed and will face a crack down soon. It's said that the government would send out content removal requests beginning on Friday (yesterday) to 580 copyright violators. I don't know when the real hunt will start kicking, but as far as I know, some sites listed there are still fully operating.
Honestly, I don't support piracy. As someone who truly loves the fandom, I always buy the legal products, be it drama, anime, or manga. I get paid for reviewing them anyway. Sometimes I get them from the publisher or companies that hold copyright on them.
But, I kinda understand how people feel about the crack down. Of course, a lot of people would only laugh at it and say that the pirates would always find their way to get those files online. Shut down one site, you can just open another one in short time.
Not everyone is as lucky as me who gets allowances to buy anything I like. Not everyone is as lucky as me to be able to read Japanese. Not everyone is as lucky as me to able to land their hands on original products.
The most important thing is not every manga that people want to read is available legally. Even if people want to import it, there's local regulations that restrict it. So basically it's like a double-edged blade.
Some BL titles that I like, namely Finder no Hyouteki, Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, Junjou Romantica, Love Stage, Hyakujitsu no Bara, Okane ga Nai and Crimson Spell, are impossible to obtain here. Well, I can buy the Japanese version but then I might get charged with pornography law. Even if it's obtainable, the price would skyrocket. Yes, this country is full of moral freaks.
Until the hunt actually starts, let's just wait and see what those who are against the chase would do to uphold the fandom. Meanwhile, I'll just sit back and enjoy the episodes I haven't watched. Damn, I haven't even touched my Itazura na Kiss live action DVD boxes which I bought last year and yesterday I just preordered another volume which is due next month.
