After the long wait, fans finally get to see a closer look on live-action movie which is adapted from Arakawa Hiromu’s manga, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi (Fullmetal Alchemist).

Warner Bros. Japan started to stream the second trailer yesterday. Unlike the vague first one, the second trailer includes more action scenes and Elric brothers’ childhood.

Yamada Ryousuke of Hey! Say! JUMP plays Edward Elric. Winry Rockbell, Elric brothers’ childhood friend is played by Honda Tsubasa (never like this girl but oh well…). Dean Fujioka joins the cast as Roy Mustang. Roy’s powerful ally and subordinate Riza Hawkeye is entrusted to Renbutsu Misako. Natsuna is cast as Maria Ross. Sato Ryuta as Maes Hughes and Kohinata Fumiyo as General Hakuro. The enemies are played by Matsuyuki Yasuko (Lust), Hongou Kanata (Envy), and Uchiyama Shinji (Gluttony). There’s no confirmation yet who’s playing Greed.

Sori Fumihiko helms the movie which is scheduled to debut on December 1, 2017. The filming took place in various locations, including Italy. ”All the cast is Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe,” Sori said.

Adapting a popular manga series always comes with a risk. Especially when the original series has millions of loyal fans worldwide like Hagane no Renkinjutsushi which was serialized from 2001 to 2010. ”I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. However, the style doesn’t represent specific race of country. There will be no scene in which any character says something that would identify him/her as Japanese,” Sori explained.

He told Oricon that it’s his wish to turn Hagane no Renkinjutsushi into a movie. ”It’s not an exaggeration to say that I live for this reason,” Sori said.

Hagane no Renkinjutsushi features heavy CGI usage because the setting is a world where alchemy can create thousands of possibilities. So monsters and otherworldly fights are very common. ”I want to create a wonderful film that uses techniques that challenge Hollywood,” Sori said.

In case you haven’t read the original manga, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi tells the story of Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, who set out on a journey to seek for the legendary philosopher’s stone to restore their original forms.

After their fail attempt to ressurect their dead mother with alchemical ritual, Edward lost his arm and leg. Alphonse lost his entire body and his soul is contained inside a heavy armor.

While working hard as the state alchemist, Edward tries to find a way to save his dearest little brother. They meet a lot of friends and foes during their journey before finally confronting the final boss...

I was planning to go to Japan in August to attend C3 Anime Festival Asia which is going to be held in Tokyo for the first time. But it seems like I need to schedule another trip in December to watch Hagane no Renkinjutsushi and Free! ~Take Your Marks~ that will be released around the same time =3
