And Then Everyone's Gone....

Last week I finished watching Soshite, Dare mo Inaku Natta, a suspense drama which aired last season. Fujiwara Tatsuya was cast as the main character, Toudou Shinichi, a genius system engineer who successfully developed advanced security program called Miss.Erase.

Shinichi’s life was perfect. He’s on a fast track in a leading tech company. A beautiful girl called Kuramoto Sanae whom he met in a bar was carrying his baby and they were about to get married.

Fortune goddess seems to be on his side until he decided to let his fiancee met his mom, Makiko. Things went downward spiral in his life.

His cards were unusable. He was even summoned to the internal affair because he was suspected as identity thief. The whole life he’s been through was harshly denied by the society when Miss.Erase erased his existence as Toudou Shinichi. The name he’s been holding for 32 years was claimed by another man who was arrested for rape charge.

The police as well as Public Safety Division were hunting him down. Friends from college whom he thought were on his side began to destroy his faith in them for their suspicious actions. Not knowing who to trust, Shinichi struggled to prove the world that he’s the original owner of the identity.

Kusaka Eiji, a bartender from Bar King which Shinichi frequented, helped hiding him from the world. Just like Shinichi, Eiji has no identity number because he sold it years ago.

I always jump on the boat when it comes to suspense drama. That’s the reason I tried watching Soshite, Dare mo Inaku Natta.

As the story goes and mysteries began to unfold, I started to feel the discontent. Fujiwara Tatsuya’s acting was good but not distinctive enough with his role as a lone wolf detective Akagi Samon. The way he speaks, his body language, all of them remind me of Akagi. Sorry, boy, you need to work harder….

So many mysteries left unanswered in Soshite, Dare mo Inaku Natta. The story was nicely written until episode 7 then it was a free fall. I felt like my expectation was wasted. There’s no f*ckin way someone so smart like Shinichi would buy such childish and unrealistic idea like creating a solitude world. How come he was so ready to cast everything aside and gave up on trying to prove his innocence just to save a bartender?

The answer could be because Shinichi is a very naïve and nice guy who is too trusting to others. He’s an airhead to boot.

Also, it’s unclear whether Eiji is dead or not. According to Shinichi’s monologue, Eiji seems to lose a lot of blood thus it’s impossible for him to survive. But there’s no solid evidence so I don’t think he’s dead. Furthermore, Eiji’s shirt was seen placed on his mother’s corpse.

That fact surely triggers my curiosity. Eiji was heavily wounded and his mother betrayed him to save Shinichi, her step son. If he truly resents his mother for abandoning him when he was young, it’s just logical to abandon her corpse instead of putting a shirt on top of her.

Another thing that bothers me is who killed Nishino Yayoi? Was it Baba or Eiji himself? How did Yayoi die? Where did the killer throw away her dead body? Who took away Saito’s body from the morgue and for what purpose? Was it Makiko who opened up the bar for Eiji?

Despite of all of the lackies, I still give two thumbs for Soshite, Dare mo Inaku Natta. The plot wasn’t easily read so it was kinda amusing to predict whether Osanai Tamotsu was on Shinichi’s side or not.

j-drama, fujiwara tatsuya
