Anime of The Year 2016: Yuri!!! on Ice

Feb 11, 2017 22:34

Yuri!!! on Ice fandom has gone so far that many people outside Japan are into it. Despite of its controversy because of its unique way of portraying love, Yuri!!! on Ice manages to find a way to steal the heart of million people out there.

Yuri!!! on Ice swept nearly half of the awards in The Anime Awards 2016 held by Crunchyroll. The series has won best boy, most heartwarming, best couple, best opening, best ending and best animation. It also beats the other rivals and won the title anime of the year which was announced live on January 28, 2017.

If it’s not convincing enough, NTT docomo conducted an online survey with over 4,800 users between December 22, 2016 and January 6, 2017 for six categories: most favorite, want to see again from the beginning, most moe, burning, laughable and heart moving.

Most favorite and most moe anime go to (obviously) Yuri!!! on Ice

Since it was aired last year, there are many people trying to cover the skating program from Yuri!!! on Ice. Some of them are awesome. Patton Chen is one of my favorite. He covers Ai ni Tsuite ~Eros~ so beautifully.

This one isn’t cover from Yuri!!! on Ice but Hanyu Yuzuru’s performance:

During the airing period many Yuzuru’s fans were angry because Yuri!!! on Ice fans kept fantasizing him as real life Katsuki Yuuri. An irresponsible fans even edited Yuzuru’s wikipedia page to match Yuuri’s profile.

Good DVD/BD sales result + worldwide great reception will hopefully pave the way to Yuri!!! on Ice second season. It doesn't have to be this year, but hopefully soon =)
