The month went by just fine. Sam didn't always stay at Gene's and when he did, they didn't always sleep in bed and even then, only a few times did any hands migrate to generally hidden areas or lips meet. Sam preferred it that way, he decided, because it was casual. They didn't need to speak about it either. If it happened, they got their wanks

He loved Sam, even as a wolf, and sometimes? Well, he got a bit carried away. He forgot his own strength as he held Sam down and took in his scent. Sam was his, his pack member, and he was his alpha. He caught him food, he played with him, he kept his pet human very happy.
And part of him just wanted Sam to be with him. He dropped his head and his teeth gently knocked against Sams neck.

He tried not to swallow but did it anyhow, his body simply reacting.
"Gene," he whined softly, not sure if the wolf would rip his throat out or not. "Gene, please..." The danger, the weight of the wolf on his chest, and the sudden realization that Gene wasn't going to hurt him, but was instead asserting his dominance, made Sam exhale sharply.
And, possibly, get a bit hard.
Damn it.
"Don't scare me like that," he told the wolf as he stroked one ear. "And don't you dare remember this."

What was Sams excuse? Oh yes he was a randy little bastard.
Still, the wolf soon got off Sam and sat neatly beside him, making a noise that made it clear he was no longer trying to hurt Sam or assert anything. It was a pathetic one that was basically a cry for food and attention before they slept.
Sam could just be happy that the wolf wasn't humping him.
... And he had been pretty close to that.

Sam didn't quite understand why or what his dynamic in all of this was. He sat on the floor with Gene, hardly caring that the wolf snarled into his plate. It was natural. Sam ate his own from a dish and waited for Gene's to slide empty to the wall.
Good enough.
Bed was had just after two in the morning. Sam kept mostly dressed.
Honestly, he was vaguely embarrassed at what had happened.

It wasn't till 6am that Gene turned back and Sam no longer had a furry beast lying on him. He had a very naked man on him. When Gene opened his eyes, he looked around awkwardly before rolling off Sam.
That was had been a disturbing night. Very disturbing.
Gene was too shell shocked to even kick Sam out or make a fuss. He just sort of lay there.

He yawned against Gene's shoulder, hands kept to himself, and mumbled something about how they had at least another two hours to sleep if Gene was feeling poorly.
The wine's properties were beyond Sam.
The real question was, did Gene still feel as protective of Sam as he had last night? Or better yet, did he still see him as his mate?

He didn't want any questions asked.
He just lay there faking sleep till he finally did fall asleep, arm around Sam as he caught up on any missing sleep. The two of them really had to pray no one ever found them like this.
... And Sam said Gene was irrational for changing the locks. Imagine Liz walking in!

"I'm takin' Chris on that Harlow case from London," he said, not looking up from the news report of the morning. "'Opin' to annoy him enough that 'e'll crack today."
In other words? Business as usual. No discussion of the night before, no kiss hello, no touching. Sam liked it.

"Sure, you do that, Bore the poor sod shitless and he'll appreciate following my orders so much more," Gene mocked. It wasn't his fault, Sams tactics and teaching methods were about as welcome in his station as roast pork at a jewish wedding.
Dropping down in the armchair, Gene rubbed at his tired eyes. Being a wolf was definitely a bitch.
"If the bastard does crack and give you your answers, make sure to get on the blower and give me the word."

Sam couldn't even really take credit for it. Chris had just hit upon a topic of conversation that made the poor man break down and confess. Who knew he had a fondness for puppies along with chopping the toes off of men that crossed him.
When Gene arrived, both Chris and their mark were in tears. Sam looked mostly amused. "They both lost their best mates as children," Sam explained to Gene, grinning up at him.
