Honestly, how long we're they going to fight over paperwork? Sam could and did forge Gene's signature now and again even when he felt terrible for it, like he'd be caught and flogged for his immoral impropriety, but if he just sat by, this would never get done. Yes. He was aware that this world wasn't entirely real, but Gene didn't have the sort of control over it that made him God. Not in anyway that he understood at least. Gene could shape their reality but not always. And really, Sam was coming to understand that he was more a guardian and less a creator than anything else.

Gene had a boss -- God or otherwise -- to deal with and appease, even if he obviously wasn't like the Devil. Sam still had nightmares about that man.

"If I get you another egg nog will you please sign that?"
